HealthSouth's new Ludlow Mills hospital approved

March 12, 2012 LUDLOW — HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Western Massachusetts announced on March 1 it has received approval from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to proceed with building a replacement hospital on property at the Ludlow Mills complex. The new hospital will be more than 72,000 square feet and accommodate the relocation of 53 patient beds currently operational at 14 Chestnut Place. The new design will provide patients with spacious, private rooms with in-suite showers, and access to a state-of-the-art therapy gym and patient-centered care areas will further enhance the hospital's rehabilitative technology and service offerings. "We have been privileged to serve patients in Western Massachusetts for more than 15 years and look forward to continuing to provide patients the high-quality care they've come to expect in an updated environment," Scott Keen, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Western Massachusetts CEO, said. "The decision to relocate was made to build a hospital that better serves our community. Patient-centered care is at the heart of what we do every day; the new hospital reflects our commitment to providing the highest level of care to our patients and community. "We are also excited to be a part of the Ludlow Mills renovation project and feel it's the right move to ensure the future health and growth of our community," he continued. The new hospital will be built utilizing green-design technology and energy-efficient building systems. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2012 and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Western Massachusetts is expected to be fully operational in its new building in late 2013.
