EAST LONGMEADOW A non-profit organization dedicated to natural and holistic healing is planning to establish a scholarship fund to aid cancer survivors with the proceeds from a benefit walk on Nov. 1.
The Holistic Retreat Institute at 280 North Main St. is sponsoring the event, which will start at 10 a.m. from its offices in the rear of the Reminder Publications building. The approximately three-mile walk is slated to conclude by noon.
According to Dr. Alya Shabunin, the institute provides supplementary health treatments.
"We are dedicated to making positive differences in people's lives," she said.
The institute's healthy life programs are based in health education, inspirational seminars, whole health natural treatments and support, she added.
"Our goal is to make holistic healthcare accessible to anyone who would like to learn and experience a higher level of wellness by bringing healthy life programs to schools, elderly living communities, daycare centers, churches and businesses," she said.
Participants are asked to donate or raise $120 to be a qualified walker. Any donation is tax deductible. Qualified walkers will receive a T-shirt if they make their donation by Oct. 25. On the day of the walk, walkers will also receive a bottle of Kangen water and a $100 gift certificate for a spa treatment at the institute.
After the walk there will be an open house at the institute. Visitors can tour the facilities, enjoy a complimentary chair message, attend a workshop on proper hydration or receive a reiki treatment.
Registration may be done in person at the institute or by mail by sending a donation to 280 North Main St., Suite 7, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. Additional information can be obtained by called 525-7500 or by going to http://walkforhealthylife.blogspot
