Hospice Care Training
West River Care Hospice is offering its next volunteer training program on two Saturdays, March 7 and March 21. The program is 16 hours and runs eight hours each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the office at 24 Prospect Ave. in West Springfield.
West River Care Hospice provides services to terminally ill patients primarily in nursing facilities in the local area. Volunteers offer companionship and support to patients and their loved ones. Volunteer support may include reading aloud, helping write notes, taking patients for walks outside in good weather, playing music, or simply being a quiet companion.
The program prepares the volunteer intellectually, emotionally and spiritually for the important part they will play in the lives of the patients they assist.
West River Care Hospice are looking for volunteers with special talents such as reiki, therapeutic touch, musical instruments, massage and hospice friendly pets to become part of our hospice program.
The training is free, but a pre-registration is required. For more information and to register, call WRC volunteer coordinator Helena Nogueira at 205-1229.
