LONGMEADOW Jewish Geriatric Services' (JGS) Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home announced on March 24 that Maria DaRosa, LPN, nurse manager, was the recipient of The Professional Recognition Award by the Holyoke Soldiers' Home and the Alzheimer's Association for her outstanding work in the area of Alzheimer's care.
The award is "for an individual in Western Massachusetts who is known to utilize their credentials and position, in a way which deeply forwards the care of those who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's and their loved ones."
The sensitivity and compassion that DaRosa brings to every resident she cares for has earned her the implicit trust of families and the unwavering respect of her colleagues and supervisors.
In addition to her daily nursing services, DaRosa has been a vital member of the JGS Alzheimer's Support Group, attending every meeting and taking every discussion to a deeper level of meaning and understanding for family members, as she shares her considerable insight into the daily struggles and challenges she knows this particular disease presents, both to patients and their families.
"Maria is an invaluable member of the JGS family, and this award is richly deserved," Robert Petroff, executive director of the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home, said.
The award ceremony recognizing local individuals for work in various aspect of Alzheimer's care is one of four events that will take place around the Soldiers' Home's 60th anniversary, which will also recognize the Home's new collaborative effort with the Alzheimer's Association.
