AMHERST – On June 2, hundreds will gather for Katelynn's Ride/Walk. The 13th annual event will benefit the Children's Cancer Hope Fund at Baystate Medical Center's Sadowsky Center for Children and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. |
In addition to the walk, the event offers 10-, 25-, 50-, or 100-mile cycling route options; each begins and ends at Hampshire College. A virtual ride option is also available for those who want to make a difference, but are unable to attend. Katelynn's Ride/Walk participants are comprised of all ages and skill levels.
The afternoon celebration will include a barbeque, live entertainment, Baystate's mobile blood donor unit and activities for the family including face painting, magic shows, balloon art, a Home Depot Kid's Workshop and a visit from the Forest Park Petting Zoo.
Katelynn's Ride/Walk is accepting online registrations at http://kride.org. Registration is free until April 15, for riders younger than 18. Walkers younger than 12 need not register. Riders and walkers are required to meet a fundraising minimum by Aug. 1 and are able to choose how their fundraising dollars are distributed between the Children's Cancer Hope Fund and the Jimmy Fund.
Katelynn's Ride/Walk was founded in memory of Katelynn Battista who lost her battle with cancer in 1997 at age 11. Katelynn's Ride has raised more than $1.5 million in the fight against cancer, with a goal to raise $150,000 this year. Katelynn's Ride Inc. is a 501(c)3 corporation.
