|GREATER SPRINGFIELD -- Come join the American Diabetes Association's 2010 Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes on Sept. 26 at Look Park in Northampton. |
This annual community fundraising event brings together hundreds of people from all over Western Massaachusetts for one common purpose to stop diabetes, one step at a time.
This year, Converse is generously donating a free pair of red Converse Hi-Top All Star sneakers to each participant who raises $150 or more by Sept. 26.
There are a variety of exciting volunteer opportunities available, including being a walker, forming a walk team, joining our health fair, becoming a corporate sponsor, or volunteering to help out at this year's event. Free online registration and fundraising is available at http://stepout.diabetes.org. The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes, and improve the lives of all people affected by the disease. Diabetes is a fast-growing, devastating disease that now affects nearly 24 million Americans. In fact, if present trends continue, one in three children born after 2000 will develop it in their lifetime. It is estimated that over 55,000 Pioneer Valley residents are living with diabetes.
