Ludlow Community Center, Randall Boys & Girls Club sponsor triathlon on June 3

May 21, 2012 LUDLOW — The Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club's 22nd Annual Triathlon will take place on June 3 at Chicopee State Park at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 7 a.m. This sprint triathlon combines a swim in a beautiful 25 acre pond with a scenic bike course through Ludlow, and finishes with a double loop run course on the paved trail through Chicopee State Park. Proceeds from the triathlon will support the new and expanding program at the Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club. Over the years, the event has attracted some of the best triathletes in our region, thanks to the tremendous volunteer support. Last year, more than 150 triathletes made up the field, which was represented by amateur triathletes from all over the Northeast along with a very strong local contingent. This year, organizers are expecting a very competitive field of athletes and another exciting event at a new location; Chicopee State Park, 570 Burnett Road, Chicopee. The race involves three events: a one-half mile swim, a 16 mile bicycle ride, and a 3.5 mile run. Individual and team entries are welcome. This event is open to anyone up to the challenge, ranging from the serious athlete to the weekend warrior. Awards will be presented to the top three males and the top three females in various ages categories, top Athena and Clydesdale athletes, and the top two teams in the all male, all female and mixed categories. T-shirts are provided to all pre-registered athletes and the first 25 athletes to register on race day. For more information and to register, visit the F.I.R.M. website at www.firm-racing.com or call 508-434-0123. Pre-register online or by mail before June 1, or register on the day of the race at Chicopee State Park. There is an additional $10 fee for race day registrations. Contact the Ludlow Community Center/Randall Boys & Girls Club for more information at 583-2072 or visit www.ludlowbgc.org to connect to the F.I.R.M. website link on the special events page.
