SPRINGFIELD For the third year, Motley Crusaders have taken up their effort to eradicate cancer. By participating in an annual fundraiser for Rays of Hope, the advocates for cancer research have raised several thousand dollars since their team's inception.

This year Simply Beadiful owner Dawn Davis has joined in the fight against breast cancer and will help Motley Crusaders fundraise by opening up her doors on Oct. 19 from noon to 4 p.m. and donating 10 percent of the day's sales to the Rays of Hope. In addition to this event, every donation made to the Rays of Hope from now through Oct. 19 at Simply Beadiful will be entered into a drawing for one of several jewelry pieces.

Sara Scibelli, who is co-captain of Motley Crusaders along with Jane Tyler, said this is a cause near to their hearts.

"We have, between my husband and myself, we have lost four members of our family to breast cancer and we currently have family members battling it," Scibelli said.

An employee of Mountain View School, Scibelli said that fundraising efforts have also been established there since two teachers have recently been diagnosed with the illness.

"It's a horrible disease and it touches everybody," she said. "Rays of Hope money stays local and it goes toward breast cancer research. I think it's great."

Davis agreed. She said she hopes people turn out to support the event.

"What woman wouldn't want to buy jewlery to support a great cause?" Davis asked, adding that men are also welcome to come in and design an item for someone special. "They can come in and make their own and we will give them advice and help. I just hope that this is extremely succesful so that we are able to give as much a possible to them."

Simply Beadiful is located at 1916 1/2 Wilbraham Road in the 16 Acres section of Springfield. For more information call 782-0288.
