Spotlights on nursing researchers at third annual nursing research conference

Longmeadow Jewish Geriatric Services (JGS) hosted over 40 nurses, healthcare professionals and nursing paraprofessionals at the third annual research conference at the Julian J. Leavitt Family Jewish Nursing Home last month. The conference offered presentations by two prominent nursing professionals: Deanna Gray-Miceli, DNSc, APRN, FAANP, and Kathleen Stolzenberger, Ph.D., RN, FAAN.

Gray-Miceli, consultant to the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University and adjunct assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, shared her research on "Post Fall Assessment." Gray-Miceli is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and John A. Hartford Building Geriatric Nursing Capacity Post-Doctoral Scholar. Her work in post-fall assessment and the experience of falls for older adults is well-known throughout the nursing world.

Stolzenberger, director of Research and Professional Development at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn., offer her insight and experiences on infusing evidence into everyday nursing practice. Stolzenberger is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and received her doctorate of nursing from University of Rhode Island School of Nursing. She is a nationally recognized expert in evidence-based nursing practice.

In addition to the featured presentations, 18 poster presentations were offered by JGS staff highlighting their work in areas of gerontological nursing evidence-based practice and research being conducted at JGS.

JGS was recently accepted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center on the Journey to Nursing Excellence Program. Through the annual research day program, JGS demonstrates its commitment to identifying innovations in professional nursing practice.
