STCC offers EKG training course

The Center for Business and Technology (CBT) at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) will offer a 10-week course during the upcoming term that is designed to prepare individuals for an entry-level career as an EKG technician. This course has been approved by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and individuals completing the program will be eligible to take NHA's national certification exam. This program approval means that the college's curriculum and instructors meet or exceed the rigorous criteria established by the NHA. One hundred percent of the students who have taken this program have passed the NHA certification exam.

This 30-hour program will cover the following major topics: principles of the cardiovascular system; the normal electrocardiogram; lead systems and lead coding; identifying rhythms; acquiring the EKG tracing; and quality assurance.

This course is designed for individuals who have prior training/experience in the healthcare field, e.g. CNAs, phlebotomists, etc., and provides additional training to improve the student's skill set and employability.

Space is limited and applications are now being accepted. Interested individuals should call 755-4502 or 755-4225 or go to http://cbt.stcc.edu for complete details.
