Support group offers tips on coping with grief during the holidays |
|
HOLYOKE Whether your loved one died recently or decades ago, the holidays bring forth powerful memories that may trigger your grief. At a time when everyone is happy and enjoying themselves, the bereaved can feel sad, lonely and depressed. The holidays do not necessarily have to be entirely sad, however.
There are ways to help you cope with your grief during this time. Hospice Life Care is offering a four-week holiday support group to identify thoughts, ideas and coping skills to help you through the upcoming months. It will be a time to share stories and to be with others who are experiencing similar feelings of grief and sadness. A brief interview is required to register. Group is limited to 10 participants.
Topics for discussion will include:
Planning ahead/what to expect
Taking care of yourself/coping skills
Planning holiday activities and family traditions
The support group will meet on Tuesdays, Nov. 17 and 24 and Dec. 1 and 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Holyoke VNA/Hospice Life Care, 113 Hampden St.
If you have any questions or would like to reserve your space in the group please call Barb Hyer, Bereavement Coordinator, at 322-1282.
