|
SPRINGFIELD The Caregiver Project is pleased to announce a new caregivers support group starting Jan. 18.
This group is for you if you're busy caring for an aging parent, spouse or other loved one while juggling the rest of your life.
If you just had an "I know that feeling" moment, then join us.
The caregiver support group welcomes all caregivers, is free and will meet weekly on Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Springfield Jewish Com-munity Center, 1160 Dickinson St.
Pre-registration is recom-mended; please contact Jewish Family Service at 737-2601 or email registration to Jewish Life@jfswm.org.
The group will be lead by Sara Weinberger, MSW, professor of social work at Western New England College.
Weinberger brings a breadth of clinical expertise and will offer support, strategies and resources for caregivers.
The Caregiver Project is a partnership with Sinai Temple, Temple Beth El, Jewish Geriatric Services and Jewish Family Service working to create a comprehensive response to caregivers and their needs with workshops, discussions, support groups and resources and information.
The Project kicked off in October with a panel discussion "Caring for Our Loved Ones: It's Not So Easy."
Future programs are planned for March 9 with Laurel Kennedy, author of "The Daughter Trap" and June 7, a special Shavous event with guest Rabbi Norman Cohen "Oy, My Family!" at Sinai Temple.
"It's fantastic to work in close collaboration with our partners as we creatively respond to the needs of families and caregivers. We're very pleased with our community response to an issue impacting so many of us," said Robert D. Marmor, executive director of Jewish Family Service.
