Volunteer coaches sought by GSSS

SPRINGFIELD — Greater Springfield Senior Services Inc. is seeking volunteer coaches for a new series of educational programs to help older adults learn how to manage their own health care and stay healthy. Volunteers will participate in a free two- or four-day training, depending on the course topic.

"This is a great way to learn something new, keep active, and help others benefit from making healthy lifestyle changes," Mary Jenewin Caplin, director of the Greater Springfield Senior Services Area Agency on Aging, said. "Experience in the subject matter isn't necessary. We are just looking for people with good communication skills, enthusiasm, dependability, and a willingness to lead small groups of older adults."

Volunteers can choose to lead one of three different courses: A Matter of Balance Fall Prevention; Healthy Eating for Successful Living; or My Life My Health- Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. Each six- and eight-week class will take place once a week for two hours.

Funding for this program is provided through a grant from the federal Administration on Aging.

For more information contact Mary Jenewin-Caplin at 781-8800 ext. 162.
