Westfield YMCA ready to host 'Green Table Connection'

WESTFIELD — On March 24, the YMCA of Greater Westfield will kick off the Green Table Connection, a monthly evening dinner program at the Camp Shepard Goyette Chalet.

Each session, participants will enjoy preparing and then savoring delicious, healthy dinners. The idea behind the program is to bring folks together who love food, value locally grown food and produce and wish to eat nutritious, well-balanced meals.

Participants will learn some of the basics of cooking — from selecting quality ingredients to preparation and cooking methods to aesthetic presentation. They will then get to enjoy the meal they have prepared in the tastefully appointed dinner setting of the Chalet. Dinners will consist of appetizers, salad, main course and dessert.

Each month there will be a featured speaker who will give a short talk on the subject matter of food during the dessert portion of the evening.

The first evening will feature a talk on "Mindful Eating" by Jyotih Davis, owner of the Prema Vidya Yoga Center. Davis received his 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification from Kripalu Center in Lenox. He has studied Yoga, Ayurveda, Sanskrit, Meditation, Yogic philosophy and Yogic history under Swami Shivananda Sarasvati.

The program will be led by Becky Clark, the facilitator of the YMCA's Homemade Cooking Club.

In keeping with the intention to create a simple, non-intimidating atmosphere where folks can relax and learn with ease, the dinner gatherings will be limited to 12 people per session. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
