Wilbraham hosting drug takeback |
|
WILBRAHAM Wilbraham Medical Reserve Corps, the Wilbraham Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), are partnering to host the first ever National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to prevent increased pill abuse and theft.
This free and anonymous service asks the public to bring potentially hazardous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs to a central drop off point for destruction. The collection day in Wilbraham and nationwide is Sept. 25 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m at the Town Office Building, 240 Springfield St.
Only solid medications, such as tablets and capsules, will be accepted. Not acceptable are IV solutions, injectables, needles, or illegal substances.
No registration required, just drive through the Town Office parking lot, drop your meds into the bin and drive out. You don't need to be a resident of Wilbraham to participate.
Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Many people don't know how to dispose of their unused medications, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away both safety and health hazards.
Wilbraham is one of four disposal sites in central Massachusetts, which also includes Springfield, North-ampton, Holyoke and Warren. There are 3400 sites participating nationwide.
