Thinking "Extreme Green"

This year's show theme is "Extreme Green" with a focus on and celebration of the recent Hill family home rebuild in Suffield, Conn., with the ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and green products and services.

Money-saving and energy-saving products were used in the building of the Hill family home and this years show promotes the area's proliferation of environmentally conscience businesses. A special "Eco Alley" sponsored by Lexus will present a new line of Lexus hybrid cars as show attendees walk down the green corridor. Vendors who can explain energy and earth saving items and how they benefit a variety of homeowner needs will line each side of the "Alley."

Get the scoop from our panels!

Reflecting this year's theme, the show will present a series of "Extreme" and "Green" panel discussions on three themes:

  • Extreme: Behind the Scenes: Moderated by an area media personality, this panel will be a discussion of how more than 3,000 volunteers pulled together every single thing needed for an old home demolition, a new home construction with all interior appliances and furniture, and the round-the-clock feeding of an entire construction crew and numerous caring assistants. This panel will feature Kent Pecoy of Pecoy Signature Homes and several of the key players in the build out and operation of the entire process. One of the panels on the marketing of the entire project will end with a gospel presentation by members of the Hill family!

  • Extreme Green: Creating an Efficient Hill Family Home Many environmentally safe and energy saving products and processes were used in the building of the Hill family home. A different panel of experts will explain the use of geothermal heating, special lighting and green products used in that special build.

  • Saving Green: Saving the Environment and Your Money Green savings are in many places, not only in saving dollars by saving energy with different product compositions but through rebates and special "green" programs! This experienced panel will showcase and explain many of those products and programs.

More to see throughout the show

This year's Ideas for Living Home Show will also include a Lifestyles Demonstration Stage on the opposite side of the building. Some of the topics include feng shui for the home, holiday decorating ideas, green building, energy conservation and much more.

The association will also have an "Ask the Expert" informational booth at the show to educate consumers about how to make informed decisions about their upcoming building/remodeling projects. Members of the association will be on hand to answer your questions and distribute free literature on an array of building concerns.

Great holiday food ideas

Those who love great food will not want to miss visiting the Extreme Cuisine Kitchen sponsored by A. Boilard Sons Inc., which will offer "Extreme" recipes and Bar Chefs preparing holiday refreshments. Food preparation is by the Log Cabin and Delaney House of Holyoke. One of the sessions will involve Catherine Hill and one of her family's favorite recipes.
