Apartments rebornBy G. Michael Dobbs, Managing Editor
SPRINGFIELD Do you want to live downtown? The developers of a 1914 building on 226 Pearl Street may have the answer for you.
Sunset Properties has renovated the former apartment building into 26 condo units, some with one bedroom, others with two, and conducted an open house last Wednesday.
Michelle Miller of Sunset Properties explained her firm bought the building last August and began renovation work. Although she said the building was well constructed and solid, the wiring and plumbing was replaced.
Keeping the original wood trimmings, the developers installed hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.
They also took the back porch and created a semi-enclosed area that allows tenants to sit outside but still have privacy and security. Each unit also has a balcony area, as well.
The condo has a gated parking area and is monitored by 37 security cameras. Miller explained that tenants would be able to view feeds from the security cameras from a Web site and from their own television.
So far, three of the units are already under agreement and Miller added there has been a great deal of interest in the units. The prices range between $95,000 and $145,000.
The model unit is open Wednesdays and Sundays from noon to 2 p.m.
Mayor Charles Ryan, who attend the event, said the development was "an expression of faith in our city."
