Wistariahurst to host valentine workshop, Bagshare Project

HOLYOKE On Feb. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m., Wistariahurst will host a Victorian Valentines Workshop for kids of all ages. This fun and creative program will inspire the artist in everyone with hands-on projects from collage to paper cutting and original crafting of valentines. Learn about the history of Victorian valentines and make some of your own to send to special friends, family and sweethearts. Fee is $6 per person and $15 for families. Reservations are suggested. Call the museum to reserve your spot at 322-5660.

On Feb. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. join Wistariahurst Museum for Girl Scouts and youth textile arts program: Bagshare Project. A plastic bag is usually used for no more than 12 minutes and takes between 500 and 1,000 years to break down. A sturdy reusable bag replaces nearly 400 disposable bags in its lifetime. Keep disposable bags out of landfills and oceans by making and sewing a reusable cloth bag. Scouts and youths will learn how to make a pattern, cut out and sew an Earth-friendly "green" shopping bag. Bring a bag lunch: refrigeration will be provided. Reservations required by Feb. 8. Fee of $9 per youth or scout (call 322-5660).

Wistariahurst Museum is dedicated to preserving Holyoke's history and inspiring an appreciation of history and culture through educational programs, exhibits and special events. The museum is open for guided tours every Saturday, Sunday and Monday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information or a schedule of other upcoming events, visit www.wistariahurst.org or call 322-5660.
