EAST LONGMEADOW KNOWLTON TRANSFER STATION The E.L. Department of Public Works announced that the Knowlton Transfer Station on Somers Road will return to summer hours effective April 16. As of that date, the Transfer Station will be open on Wed. and Sat. from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. If you have any questions, call the Dept. of Public Works at 525-5400 ext. 3.
SENIOR BREAKFAST BUFFET A senior breakfast buffet will take place at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center, 305 Maple St., on April 8 at 9 a.m. Cost is $5 per person. Make a reservation by calling Jennifer Payette at 525-6361 ext. 205.

REFEREES NEEDED The E.L. Rec. Dept's. intown soccer program is in need of referees for the spring season. Those in grades 9 - 12 and have knowledge of soccer are eligible. Contact Al Suchcicki at 525-4909. CHEERLEADING REGISTRATIONS Cheerleading registrations are now being taken in the E.L. Rec. Dept. for those resident children who will be entering grades 3 - 8 in Fall 2008. Tryouts will take place at the end of April. Come in Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to register.
POT LUCK SUPPER The Women's Fellowship of the First Congregational Church of E.L. will host a pot luck supper on April 21 at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Speaker Carleen Hoffman will discuss "Spring is Coming: Time to Clear Out the Clutter." Also known as the Clutter Doctor, she will cover ways to reduce clutter, prepare for downsizing and reduce stress in our lives. All are welcome.
GREATER SPRINGFIELD TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS The April meeting of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association will be April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Somers Senior Center, 19 Battle St., Somers, Conn. Demonstrator for the evening will be Rick Stromoski from Suffield, a nationally syndicated cartoonist. The public is welcome to attend.

BLUE MAN GROUP PERFORMANCE St. Mary's Church, 840 Page Blvd., East Springfield, is sponsoring a trip to Boston to see the July 20 matinee performance by the Blue Man Group at the Charles Theater. SPRING IS IN THE AIR Springfield Garden Club's "Spring is in the Air," a special meeting featuring Bob Whitney of Springfield Florists Supply, will take place April 18 in the hall of Wilbraham United Church, Main St., Wilbraham. CALL FOR CLOTHING PICK-UP Big Brothers Big Sisters will be sending trucks throughout Hampden County for a free pick-up of donated used clothing and shoes in good condition. "A Catered Affair" June 25 on Broadway. "A Catered Affair" is a new musical written by and starring Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein as he explores the meaning of family and the need for love. SJB GOLF TOURNAMENT Please join us for the ninth annual St. John the Baptist School Golf Outing on May 12 at Ludlow Country Club. HAMPDEN TRIPLE PASTA DINNER The Minnechaug Scholarship Foundation presents its second annual triple pasta dinner at La Cucina at the Hampden House on April 14 from 6 - 8 p.m. Cost is $15 per person which includes your chance to win a six month family membership to the Scantic Valley YMCA. BULK DISPOSAL DAY The town of Hampden will be offering a Bulk Disposal Day at the Transfer Station on April 19 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Residents will be allowed bulk items at a cost of approximately $20 cash only, per item. Air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, TVs and computer monitors are approximately $40 cash only, per item. Construction materials will also be taken for a fee. HAMPDEN GARDEN CLUB The Hampden Garden Club will host its first meeting of the season on April 17 at 7 p.m. at Academy Hall on Main Street. Esteemed local gardening expert Larry Lirot will present a slide presentation on gardens of the British Isles. New members and guests are welcome. On April 19, club volunteers will hostd an Earth Day Putter at Thornton Burgess School from 9 - 11 a.m.
LONGMEADOW JOURNEY TO JAZZ Join us for a follow-up journey with a DVD of "Duke Ellington, Live in Holland" on screen same group, different venue and presentation for an interesting twist. Everyone has a great time, so if you haven't tried it, all are welcome. April 22 at 1 p.m. at Greenwood.
"SEUSSICAL" Pollack Playhouse Teen Theatre will be accepting applications for their summer workshop production of "Seussical the Musical." WATER AEROBICS The Longmeadow Adult Center is offering Water Aerobics classes on Thursdays, April 24 - May 29 at 11 a.m. at the Glenmeadow Pool. REPUBLICAN TOWN COMMITTEE The Longmeadow Republican Town Committee Meeting will host its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on April 9 at the Greenwood Senior Center. The meeting will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Visitors are invited and welcome.
BUILDING BUDDIES On April 24 from 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. or 3 - 3:45 p.m., kids in kindergarten to second grade are invited to Building Buddies, a special book group, at the Storrs Library. The program consists of a story and discussion, a snack and a Lego activity. Children will design, build and display a Lego structure relating to the book that is read. Problem solving and creativity will be in play as the Building Buddies book group enjoys this 45-minute get together. MAGICIAN TOMMY JAMES The Storrs Library will present Tommy James, a children's magician, on April 23 from 11 - 11:45 a.m. The show will take you on a roller coaster ride of magic entertainment full of fun, color, mystery and extreme comedy situations. Trick after trick, laugh after laugh, children ages three and older, parents and grandparents are sure to enjoy this program sponsored by the Jewish Geriatric Services. PIONEER VALLEY BEGINNER TENNIS LEAGUE Have fun and get fit as ages 19+ can play against teams from other PV towns such as Agawam, Springfield, East Longmeadow and Chicopee. Five - 10 players are needed to play singles, first doubles and second doubles matches. Post-season divisional play is optional. CARDIO TENNIS Get your heart rate into your cardio zone and burn more calories while improving your tennis skills. It's a total body workout taught by trained professionals. The one-hour program includes a warm-up, dynamic stretching, cardio workout and cool down session. YOUNG ARTISTS SERIES: PICASSOS Children will be exposed to the fun of drawing, painting and sculpture with real art materials. MUSICAL NOTES FOR INFANTS, TODDLERS & PRESCHOOLERS Clap, sing and move with your child in this program designed for your child's enjoyment. Music is known to increase a child's emotional intelligence, creativity and social skills. These six-week programs will use singing, music and use of various instruments. BASEBALL CLINIC This clinic for boys and girls ages seven - 12 will help develop a life-long passion for baseball. Professional and college-level coaches will provide instruction in fielding, throwing, hitting, pitching and physical conditioning. JOHN BARKMAN MEMORIAL FISHING DERBY A Longmeadow tradition, especially for children ages three - 14. Laurel Pond will be stocked with hungry trout in preparation for the derby. Kids bring their own tackle and families enjoy a great community fellowship day. There will be prizes for first fish, longest fish and most fish caught in each age division. Refreshments and bait will be available for purchase. Back this year: Touch-A-Truck! We will have some of our Parks trucks for the kids to see up close. This is a free event. The Fishing Derby will take place May 4 from 9 - 11 a.m. at Laurel Pond.

TEEN CENTER Youths in grades 6 - 8 and their guests are welcome to enjoy a supervised evening out on Fridays from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Greenwood Center. Admission is $7 per person. All students must sign in prior to entry. School dress codes are strictly followed. Teen Center is run and staffed by area college students. SPRINGFIELD SPRINGFIELD ROTARY CLUB The Springfield Rotary Club announced that Dr. Alex Gillat, principal of Springfield Academy of Excellence (SAFE), will address the Springfield Rotary Club's luncheon meeting on April 11. His topic will be the seven Springfield Academy for Excellence schools. The Springfield Rotary Club meets every Friday at 12:15 p.m. in the Mass Mutual Room at The Basketball Hall of Fame, West Columbus Avenue, and is a proud member of Rotary International.
TAG SALE AND VENDOR SHOW The planning committee of the American Cancer Society of Greater Springfield will host a tag sale and vendor show on April 12 at Our Lady of Sacred Heart School, 52 Rosewell St. There will be tag sale items available from teams from the Relay For Life of Greater Springfield and Vendors such as Tastefully Simple, Lia Sophia and many more. All proceeds will benefit the Relay For Life of Greater Springfield.
FREE YOUTH DANCE CLASS The Dunbar Community Center presents Modern/Contemporary dance class for teens. Come and take advantage of an opportunity to learn "The Lester Horton Technique." PINE POINT COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Pine Point Community Council will take place April 8 at 7 p.m. at 335 Berkshire Ave. Agenda items are two requests for special permits to sell used cars at 18 Berkshire Ave. and 712-722 Boston Rd. YMCA HEALTHY KIDS DAY On April 12 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. the Wilbraham Police Dept. will be on hand at the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day. There will be an officer on hand to inspect and show parents how to property install their child's car seat on a first-come first-serve basis. On average, seven out of 10 car seats are improperly installed. There will also be an officer and other personnel on hand to inspect your child's bikes to make sure they are in proper working order. There will be a bike safety course set up to show your children the proper way to ride their bikes on the roadway.
