EAST LONGMEADOW
LET'S ZUMBA!
Beginning Oct. 5 we will offer a Zumba exercise class on Mondays from 4 - 4:45 p.m. with certified Zumba instructor Donna Gendron. Class session will be eight weeks, at a cost of $25. There will be a free demo class on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. Sign up at the demo class for the first session and receive a $3 discount. Burn calories to a Latin rhythm with easy to follow moves. Class is tailored for active seniors, but open to all adults age 18 and over. Call the senior center if interested in attending the demo class at 525-5436.

LIVE MUSIC AT REDSTONE

CAR WASH
The ELHS Swim and Dive Teams are having a car wash fundraiser on Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in the rotary. All proceeds will fund the activities of both the high school swimming and diving teams.

OVER THE TOP BALLROOM DANCERS
The "Over the Top" Ballroom Dancers will be performing Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. This award winning group is made up of local school age dancers who perform regularly at hospitals and nursing homes. This event is free and open to the public.

BOOK CLUB
The Book Club will resume its monthly meetings beginning Sept. 29 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. The selected book for summer reading is "World Without End" by Ken Follett. We welcome new members at any time!

CREATIVE WRITING COURSE
For all with an interest in writing as well as those who have been writing "forever," Adventures in Writing offers a relaxed, writer-friendly opportunity to experiment. This six-week session begins Sept. 10 and meets Thursdays from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. There is a fee. This is not an academic course, but a non-stressful way to develop, enliven and sharpen your own style. Enrollment limited, early sign-up is recommended.

ELHS PTO
On Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the high school conference room the ELHS PTO will meet. The high school administration will be in attendance, so attend for what will be an informative and educational meeting.

HISTORY OF BRASS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
David Neill and other musicians will give a performance at the Pleasant View Senior Center on Sept. 8 from 6 - 8 p.m. on the history of brass instruments. The players will give a history on certain instrument and then play a song on each. This event is free and open to the public.

BEADED BOOK MARKS W/ SANDY MERRILL
Register early for this fun class scheduled for Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. Cost is $5 for two book marks, either metal or cord, payable when you pre-register. You may make additional book marks during the class and pay for them in class.

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
The Select Board voted to set the date for the Fall Special Town Meeting as Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. in the LHS auditorium.

SPECIAL SELECT BOARD MEETING
The Select Board will be hosting a joint meeting with the School Committee, the Finance Committe and the School Building Committee on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at Storrs Library, 693 Longmeadow St.

ARTISTS' STUDIO

HELP FILL OUR SHELVES
In observance of the newly established National Day of Service and Remembrance, Sept. 11, the Adult Center invites you to make a donation of non-perishable food, personal care items or paper goods to the new Longmeadow Pantry. VETERANS' CIRCLE
The Veteran's Circle at the Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., will resume meetings on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. Jerry Nolet and Merton Peck will each speak. The Veteran's Circle meets the first Wednesday of each month. The meetings deal with requested topics, general questions, sharing of experiences, host speakers, etc. All veterans are welcome. FITNESS CLASSES
Exercise provides benefits for your body and your mind. The Adult Center offers strength training fitness classes instructed by the YMCA on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the First Church at 9 a.m., followed by aerobics at 10:05 a.m. This is an on-going program; join at any time. LEARN BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS
Members of the Computer Club at the Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., offer one-on-one instruction in the most basic computer skills for beginners. Learn how to open and close a file, use a mouse, open Windows, access the Internet just enough to make you more comfortable to take a beginners class. Sessions are on the first Tuesday of the month by appt. only call 565-4150.

ZUMBA CLASS
Ditch the workout, join the party! The Springfield JCC Health & Fitness Center will introduce a Zumba class on Sept. 14, 6 - 7 p.m., 1160 Dickinson St. No dance experience is necessary! Classes will meet Mondays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. This class is open to the general public. Fee is $10 per class.

JOURNEY TO JAZZ
The incomparable local jazz singer Ethel Lee kicks off our new season with her CD "An Evening in September," which was recorded live in Springfield. Jazz at its best! Lee will appear live at the Adult Center for a discussion of the CD and her career on Sept. 22 from 1 - 2:30 p.m.

WORLD LITERACY DAY CELEBRATION
Bay Path College will celebrate World Literacy Day with Lesl a Newman, poet laureate of Northampton and the author of 57 books for children, teens and adults, during her presentation "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Writing." A book signing will follow. The event will take place Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in Breck Suite, Wright Hall at Bay Path College, 588 Longmeadow St. The presentation and book signing are free and open to the public and are offered as part of Bay Path's Kaleidoscope: Perspectives on Culture, Life and Learning series. PAJAMA STORYTIME
Cuddle up with a favorite blanket, a teddy and a good book on Sept. 15 at the Storrs Library. A special evening Pajama Storytime for children 3 - 7 years and their parents will take place from 7 - 7:30 p.m. This relaxing program will consist of wonderful stories, restful songs and a pleasant time for all. THE NEW ENGLAND BRASS QUARTET
Sept. 19, 7 p.m. at Community House. This is a free concert presented by the Longmeadow Cultural Council. The members of the New England Brass Quartet have performed together in a variety of ensembles throughout New England since 1976. Included in this repertoire are works from ragtime, musical theatre, popular song, and classical music of all eras.

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
The Our Lady of Grace Society will be hosting a Centennial Celebration of the founding of its society on Sept. 6. The festivities will begin with a Mass to be officiated by Bishop Timothy A. McDonnell at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on William Street. OKTOBERFEST
Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., will be hosting their annual Oktoberfest Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the church. This year's festival will feature German music with the Black Sheep German Band performing. There will be children's games, teenage activities, the popular apple pie baking contest, bingo, Chinese and grocery wheel raffles as well as a grand raffle that has 12 winners with prizes that range from $100 - $1,000. There will be the cash raffle with the grand prize of $20,000 with only 500 tickets sold. American and German food and drinks will also be available. GOLF FUNDRAISER
Young Life Springfield will host its second annual Golf Classic, Sept. 19, at Veterans Golf Course; 8 a.m. start. Dinner at 2 p.m. catered by Texas Roadhouse. ON THE SAME PAGE
The Springfield chapter of Hadassah "On the Same Page" Book club announced that Rabbi Amy Wallk Katz will be facilitating a discussion on forgiveness in anticipation of the High Holy Day observance. We will focus on the book "The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness" by Simon Wiesenthal. The book club meeting will take place in the meeting room of Glen Meadow, 24 Tabor Crossing, Longmeadow, on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. Members are encouraged to bring a prospective member and there will be no solicitation. FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
On Aug. 28 we will be hosting a freshman orientation from 10 - 11:30 a.m. Students will report to the auditorium for a welcome by the principal. Grouped by their home bases, the students will be led by peer mentors who will give them a tour of the building, provide relevant info and answer any questions. Following the tour, the students will be introduced to their guidance counselors, who will discuss the functions of the guidance dept. The orientation will conclude in the cafeteria with ice cream and an activity fair where students can see what types of extracurricular activities are available.

WOMEN'S CLUB
The Wilbraham Women's Club will open its 2009-10 season on Sept. 10 at noon at the St. Cecilia Parish Center. A lunch of sandwiches and desserts will be served. Julie Collier will talk on "Birds of Prey" and Minnechaug students will report on Mass Star. Guests and prospective members are welcome.
