STROKE PREVENTION
The Pleasant View Senior will present an informational discussion on stroke prevention on Aug. 12 at 12:30 p.m. Leah Santello, a health service coordinator from Life Line Screening will discuss risk factors for a stroke, as well as Life Line's non-invasive screening methods available to detect potential problems which could lead to stroke. PROTECTION FROM IDENTITY THEFT
Identity theft is a growing, serious crime committed against anyone no matter their age, sex, race, lifestyle or career status. Webster Bank will be at the Pleasant View Senior Center on Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. for a free educational identity theft presentation. The presenter will show you how to deter, detect and defend yourself from becoming a victim. Call the Senior Center to register at 525-5436.

COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION
Commodities will be distributed to East Longmeadow residents on Aug. 19 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. If you have not already done so, come fill out paperwork in the office and pick up your ticket. No commodities will be given without a ticket, and paperwork must be completed prior to Aug. 19.

FARMERS' MARKET COUPONS
The Council on Aging has a limited supply of farmers' market coupons to be distributed to low-income East Longmeadow seniors on a first come, first served basis. You must verify eligibility for the coupons with at least one of the following programs: food stamps, SSI, Section 8 Housing, Energy Assistance, Medicaid or commodities food assistance. SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
The Board of Selectmen announces that it has set a date for a Special Town Meeting Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in the ELHS Auditorium. The deadline to submit warrant articles for consideration at this meeting is Aug. 20. Petitioned warrant articles must include the signatures of at least 100 registered voters. Petition forms are available in the Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall. All articles must be submitted to the Board of Selectmen's Office in East Longmeadow Town Hall, 60 Center Square, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.

FIELD HOCKEY

The E.L. Rec. Dept. reminds parents that the deadline to register your child for fall intown soccer is Aug. 7 by 4 p.m.; wait list after Aug. 7 will apply. LIONS CLUB GOLF TOURNAMENT
John "Moe" Moriarty and Robert "Bob Z" Zumbruski 20th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit Lion Eye Care & Research will take place Aug. 10. REKINDLE SHABBAT
A program of the Jewish Federation of Western Mass. supported by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and Bill and Lynn Foggle will present Shabbat under the Sky, Aug. 21, 6 - 7:30 p.m. Participants will gather at the north end of the Longmeadow Town Green and should bring their own vegetarian picnic dinner. The Green is located on Route 5 in the center of Longmeadow. During the picnic, there will be storytelling, games, shofar blowing practice and learning new songs. The evening will conclude with a short musical service. In case of rain, the event will take place in the Longmeadow Community House next to the Green.

PNEUMONIA
The Longmeadow Board of Health will be hosting pneumonia immunization clinics on Aug. 19, 10 a.m. - noon and 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at the Nurse's Office, Greenwood Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd. Open to Longmeadow residents only who are 65 years of age or over or residents of any age who have chronic medical conditions.

GREENWOOD/REYNOLDS UPDATE
Both Greenwood and Reynolds Pool's last day open to the public will be Aug. 23.

REYNOLDS POOL UPDATE
The toddler pool at Reynolds Pool (at Bliss Park) is currently closed due to new federal mandates that we are unable to comply with at this time. We are in the process of addressing this issue. It is our hope to be able to have the pool functioning as soon as possible. Feel free to use the main pool at Reynolds, the main pool at Greenwood or the new Splash Pad at Greenwood.

VOLLEYBALL CAMP
Grades 5 - 9. Join LHS Varsity Volleyball Coach George Mulry and his players at this high energy, skill packed camp. Drills and play will focus on the basic skills of volleyball including serving, passing, hitting, setting, blocking, serve-receive and defense. Players of all levels and positions encouraged to attend. Campers should pack a lunch (drink will be provided) and water bottle daily. Camp runs from Aug. 3 - 7 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the LHS Gym. SUMMER SUNSET CONCERT SERIES
Select Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine. Come enjoy the outdoors and gather with friends and family on the Longmeadow Green. In case of rain, concerts will be in the Community House. Bring lawn chairs, your blanket and a picnic lunch and enjoy a wonderful array of soft, family oriented music. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Come, relax and enjoy the sounds of music during the summer. Concerts are free.

LHS CLASS OF '89 REUNION
The Longmeadow High School class of 1989 will have its 20th reunion on Nov. 28 from 6:30 - 11 p.m. at Sheraton Monarch Place Hotel's Mahogany Room, One Monarch Place, Springfield. A light fare dinner including hors d'oeuvres and a carving station; beer, wine, cocktails and soda will be served. Tickets are $60 each (includes drink tickets). FITNESS CORNER
The Longmeadow Adult Center, 231 Maple Rd., invites you to keep fit by using our air-conditioned Fitness Corner during the hot summer weather. We have two treadmills, a bicycle, a stair climber and a cardio glide. The equipment may be used anytime the center is open, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Stop by the office prior to using any of the equipment for registration and instruction. TRANSPORT WHEELCHAIRS AVAILABLE
The Longmeadow Adult Center now has a two transport wheelchairs available for loan to Longmeadow residents on a temporary, short-term basis. They are great for medical appointments, the mall, outings, sightseeing, brief vacations, etc. The chairs weigh only 20.5 lbs and fold easily. To reserve, call 565-4150.

MEETING
There will be a meeting of the City Council's Veteran's Affairs and Human Services Committee on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Sullivan Complex on Carew Street. This meeting is called to discuss a proposed anti-gang recruiting ordinance. For info call Hungry Hill Senior Center, 733-9411.

ZANETTI SCHOOL MEETING
There will be a special meeting of the Hungry Hill Neighborhood Council on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Hungry Hill Center, lower level of Our Lady of Hope Church. Representatives from the city's School Department will discuss the proposed plans to accommodate the traffic flow at the new Zanetti school. All interested residents are welcome to attend; light refreshments will be served.

BLOOD PRESSURE READINGS
Free blood pressure readings will be offered by the Chicopee Visiting Nurse Association at the Hungry Hill Center on Aug. 17 from 9 - 11 a.m. There will be a SHINE representative at the center on Aug. 19. SHINE is a program to assist seniors with insurance, prescription, etc. concerns. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the center at 733-9411.

TUESDAY LUNCHEONS
At the Tuesday luncheons at the Hungry Hill Center in August there will be a roast turkey dinner on Aug. 11 and spaghetti on Aug. 25. Reservations are required one week in advance; the cost is $2. The lunch is provided by Greater Springfield Senior Services and includes the dinner, dessert, milk/coffee/tea. Reservations can be made by calling the center at 733-9411.

EXERCISE CLASSES
There are low impact aerobic classes at the Hungry Hill Center on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m., a chair exercise on Monday afternoons at 1 p.m. and line dancing on Fridays at 10 a.m. All older adults are welcome. There is a fee for the Monday low impact aerobic classes only. Classes are sponsored by the city's Department of Elder Affairs. Advance registration is not required.
