ANNUAL ORCHID SHOW The Amherst Orchid Society will host its annual orchid show on Feb. 20, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Feb. 21, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with the sales area open Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Smith Vocational High School, 80 Locust St., Rte. 9, Northampton. TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS The February meeting of the Tobacco Valley Artists Assoc. will be Feb. 17, 7 p.m., at the Somers Senior Center, 19 Battle St., Somers, Conn. It will feature a demo of watercolor techniques by noted area artist Susan Pecora, well known for the PBS television show "Reflections Through Watercolor" on Springfield's WGBY. She currently teaches painting classes at the Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield as well as her studio gallery at Thorndike Mill Art Center. The meeting is open to the public.
HOLYOKE SAVE THE DATE The Log Cabin Memories Live On Fundraiser for the new Senior Center will take place April 8 at the Log Cabin. SPRINGFIELD CRAFT SALE The Springfield Hobby Club will host its annual craft sale on March 4 and 5 from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at 309 Chestnut St. (lower Franklin next to the YMCA). In addition to craft tables, there will be a snack bar, bake sale, jewelry and white elephant tables and members tables. The Thrift Shop will host a fill-a-bag for $5 during the same hours.

SPRINGFIELD GARDEN CLUB Restoring the Olmstead Garden at the Palmer Train Depot will be the topic of the Feb. 19 meeting of the Springfield Garden Club. WESTFIELD FIREFIGHTER EXAM State Rep. Don Humason and Sen. Mike Knapik announced the Municipal Civil Service Firefighter examination will take place April 24. The Mass. Human Resource Division (HRD) of the Executive Office of Administration and Finance is responsible for the administration of this state wide entry-level exam. Day includes roundtrip motor coach, the Bronx Zoo Total Experience Pass, which includes zoo entrance, Skyfari, monorail, Congo Gorilla exhibit, Children's Zoo and Butterfly Garden. Departure time is 7:30 a.m. from the municipal parking lot on Central Street. Return home time is approx. 8 p.m. Registrations are being accepted at the Park & Rec. office. BUS TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY The W.S. Park & Rec. Dept is sponsoring a bus trip to New York City on April 24. Bus leaves municipal parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and returns home at approx. 9:30 p.m. Drop offs and pick up site in New York to be determined by bus driver. Once in NYC, you will be on your own. Bus will leave NYC at 5:30 p.m. with a short dinner stop on the way home (dinner not included in price). A movie will be shown for your enjoyment while on the bus.
