AGAWAM CARDIAC WELLNESS FAIR Heritage Hall East will be hosting a Cardiac Wellness Health Fair on Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The fair will be spotlighting a heart healthy lifestyle. There will be a heart healthy cooking demonstration and educational seminar, chair massages and demonstrations of Tai Chi and Yoga for relaxation and stress management, and a blood pressure screening. RED SOX VS ORIOLES The Agawam Golden Agers, Chapter Two is sponsoring a trip to Baltimore, Md., Aug. 19 - 21 Boston Red Sox compete against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. CHILD INTERNET SAFETY PROGRAM "Keeping Children Safe on the Internet," a special presentation by Detective Jim McLaughlin, one of the leading experts in Internet safety and children will take place Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. - noon at St. David's Church, 699 Springfield St., Feeding Hills. ADULT DROP-IN YOGA The Agawam Center Library Association will be sponsoring an Adult Drop-In Yoga program Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. This beginner's program is free and open to adults 18 and over. Please bring a yoga mat or towel. No registration is necessary for this program. Programs must have a minimum number of participants to be held. YOUTH ART SHOW The Agawam Public Library is pleased to have on display artwork from all of the public school students from grades kindergarten through 12 during March. Among the work that will be on display are creative samples in painting, sculpture and printmaking. Youth Art Month is from March 1 - 31. This year's art show is a celebration of creative talent that is showcased yearly by the students of Agawam. The artwork exhibit will be hosted on the lower level, and the glass showcase near the children's library on the main level. Viewing hours are Monday - Thursday; 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
NEW YORK CITY BUS TRIP Tickets are available for the Agawam Cultural Council "Plan Your Own Day" bus trip to NYC on May 3. Buses will make stops along 5th Ave. Departure will be from the Agawam Middle School parking lot at 6:30 a.m. with return to Agawam before 10 p.m. For further information call 786-0787.
CHICOPEE FABULOUS FIFTIES The Chicopee Senior Travel Club will be remembering the Fabulous Fifties with Charlie Thomas and The Drifters on May 18 at Luciano's on Lake Pearl in Wrentham. OGUNQUIT, MAINE The Chicopee Senior Travel Club is going to Ogunquit, Maine on June 10 - 12 on a three-day get-away. Tour will include accommodations at the Ogunquit River Plantation, four meals including a lobster bake, tour and tasting at the Redhook Ale Brewing Co., Kennebunkport guided tour, Nubble Lighthouse cruise, show at the Ogunquit Playhouse, visit to Perkins Cove and Kittery shopping. COLLECTIBLE SHOW Collectible show, sponsored by the Nativity BVM Parish Council March 2 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. in Nativity Church hall, 780 Chicopee St. The show will feature coins, sports and non-sports cards and sets, wax boxes, vintage cards, card supplies, autographs, comic books, NASCAR racing, gift items and more. LOOKING FOR UMPIRES The Chicopee Parks & Rec. Dept. is looking for umpires for its youth baseball and softball leagues. Experience and knowledge of the sport and umpiring is encouraged, but mandatory training will also be given to those who have not umpired before. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. SPRING FLOWER SHOW/QUINCY MARKET The Chicopee Parks & Rec. Dept. still has tickets left for the New England Spring Flower in Boston on March 8, with continuation to Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall for a few hours of shopping. Enjoy the beautiful landscaped garden displays, professional lectures, amateur competitions, ancient arts and much more. GREATER SPRINGFIELD MEETING The University of the Third Age (UTA) at Asnuntuck Community College, 170 Elm St., Enfield, Conn., meeting Feb. 22. We will have a speaker, volunteer Michelle Pavia, who is a rehabilitator in the state licensed program, Wildlife Orphanage. Pavia and other volunteers care for disabled and injured wildlife. TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS MEETING The next meeting of the Tobacco Valley Artists Association is Feb. 20, 7 p.m., at the Somers Senior Center, 19 Battle St., Somers, Conn. Award-winning Wilbraham artist Deborah Padden will present a demonstration on building a portrait in oils. She has been working in portraits since 1995 and teaching since 2000. The public is welcome.
SILVER FOXES & BELLES Laurie Festa will perform during the Silver Foxes & Belles meeting, March 12, 1:30 p.m. The program will be at the Springfield Jewish Community Center, 1160 Dickinson St. Festa is a singer, musician and recording artist. NEW HAMPSHIRE TRIP The seniors of St. Rose de Lima invite you to join them March 27 as they travel to Parker's maple barn in Mason, N.H., where you will enjoy a full breakfast. HOLYOKE SPRING PROGRAMS The Holyoke Parks & Rec. Dept. announces that sign-ups for their spring programs will take place in the department offices at City Hall now through March 19. Anyone interested may sign up from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. and the cost varies by program. Programs include volleyball, Tai Chi for adults, Kung Fu for kids, hip hop ballet, music lessons (flute, violin and piano) and basketball. A parent or guardian must be present to register. WESTFIELD PIANO LESSONS The Community Education Office at Westfield State College is offering Piano from Feb. 25 - April 28 on Mondays from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Join pianist and instructor Scott Bailey for a complete orientation to the keyboard for beginning pianists. Students work in a lab setting in the Westfield State College center for music technology where each student has his or her own piano. LIFEGUARD TRAINING The Community Education Office at Westfield State College is offering Lifeguard Training from March 3 - May 12 on Mondays from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Spend the summer on the beach or at the pool working as a certified lifeguard. Certification includes Lifeguard Training, Community First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. This class is sponsored by the American Red Cross. Please register by March 3. There is a fee. NEW YOUTH CHOIR GROUP The YMCA of Greater Westfield is pleased to announce the formation of a Youth Choir: The Y Notes Ensemble. The choir is open for any child in grades one - eight who likes to sing and perform. The program will meet at the YMCA on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. from Feb. 27 to June 18. There is a cost. The program will culminate with two spring concerts, one at the YMCA and the second at the YMCA's 120th Annual Gala to take place at Stanley Park on June 28. HEALTH LECTURE The YMCA o f Greater Westfield will host a lecture by John Hoime titled "Restoring and Maintaining a Healthy Immune System" on Feb. 26 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Hoime is the owner/operator of Alternative Health Inc., located in Southwick, Northampton and West Hartford, Conn. Hoime will address the topic of immunity and how people can look to both restore and maintain their immune system. The lecture is free and open to the public. WEST SPRINGFIELD RUMMAGE SALE CORRECTION A mid-winter rummage sale will take place at Grace Lutheran Church on Rte. 20 on Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Gently used clothing and housewares as well as tools, electronics and small furniture will be featured. Feline Friends will have a table with adoptable cats. All proceeds of the sale will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a non-profit financial organization which supports congregational outreach.
