EAST LONGMEADOW ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP The book "The City of Falling Angels" by John Berendt will be the topic of a lively discussion when the Adult Book Group meets on Jan. 26 at the E.L. JEWELRY CRAFTERS WANTED Crafters wanted for Chocolate and Jewelry Fair to be held at the First Congregational Church on Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. There will be a Chinese auction as well as loads of chocolate baked goods and homemade candy. IMPACT PROGRAM Personal Safety/Communications Skills Program for H.S. students, Feb. 19 - 22 at Mt. View from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Bring a snack. Class size limited. Impact provides realistic personal safety training that gives students the skills to respond appropriately to threatening situations in the moment of fear and intimidation. Come into the Rec. Dept. BOYS LACROSSE The E.L. Rec. Dept. announces a sign-up/info night for boys lacrosse on Jan. 17, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Rec. Dept. Come and meet the coaches and ask questions about the program. Boys in grades 3 - 8 are eligible to register. Registrations are being accepted in the Office through March 28.
HISTORICAL COMMISSION E.L. Historical Commission presents a Beginners Family History Workshop. Learn how to tap the roots of your family with genealogist John Perkins. He brings over 25 years experience of his own research skills and abilities. Bring your current records in order to prepare research from your information and materials. This is a free workshop including basic research materials that will take place at the E.L. Library Community Room on Jan. 22 from 5:30 - 8 p.m.
GREATER SPRINGFIELD SQUARE DANCE CLUB The Quabbin Valley Square Dance Club will hold a beginners square dance at the American Legion in Belchertown, Rte. 202, behind the police station, on all Wed. evenings at 7 p.m. The first two dances are free. PIONEER VALLEY STAMP CLUB The Pioneer Valley Stamp Club will meet on Jan. 8 and 22 at the First United Church of Christ on Rte. 5 (corner of Longmeadow and Williams Streets); across from the Community Center (side door on Williams St., downstairs, far corner room). Activities for the evening include a mini-auction and a short meeting. Magic Show Off-Broadway Magician Michael Paul will be presenting two shows on Jan. 12 at Bailey Hall in the First Church. The 2 p.m. show is for families; the 7 p.m. show is recommended for older kids and adults. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. BUILDING BUDDIES AT STORRS On Jan. 17 from 3:15 - 4 p.m. kids in kindergarten to second grade are invited to Building Buddies, a new book group, at the Storrs Library. The program consists of a story and discussion, a snack and a Lego activity. Children will design, build and display a Lego structure relating to the book that is read. LETS DANCE A night out for dads and daughters. Longmeadow Parks & Rec. Dept. will be hosting the annual Father-Daughter Dance. What a great opportunity to share a special night with Dad, Grandpa or that special man in your life! There will be lots of dancing, games and snacks. Please dress to impress! RED CROSS SWIM LESSONS Ages 4-18. Our experienced lifeguards teach all levels. Children should be comfortable in the water and toilet-trained. DANCE & MOVEMENT FOR PRESCHOOLERS Ages 2.9 - 5 and Dance, Movement and Tap for preschoolers, ages 3.9 - 5. Half year class. Tip toe through this introductory fun, educational dance experience. Children will learn ballet, jazz and tumbling technique while singing and dancing with these exciting classes. Performances for parents and family members will be the last lesson of every other month to showcase progress. Children should wear a leotard, tights and leather ballet slippers. COMING SOON! FREE ICE SKATING The Longmeadow Board of Park Commissioners and the Parks & Rec. Dept. announce free public skating at the Blinn tennis courts beginning soon, weather permitting. SMALL SAMURAI Ages 4 - 5. Children in this program learn respect, discipline and confidence in an environment that is fun, active and exciting. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you like to meet new people, want to help others and can volunteer for two hours a month, you are just what we are looking for. The Longmeadow Adult Center is in need of volunteers to deliver meals for our Meals On Wheels program. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity and you will be performing a vital service for our community. Training is provided for a specific route in Longmeadow and you can choose days that are convenient for you. Substitute drivers are available for backup in emergencies or if you are concerned about driving in bad weather. For more information contact Ellen Gold, Coordinator of Volunteers, at 565-4150.
SPRINGFIELD WARD 5 DEMOCRATS Ward 5 Democrats will hold their monthly meeting and holiday party at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Mill Pond School, 91 Old Acre Rd. THE BOAR'S HEAD FESTIVAL The Boar's Head Festival, a medieval celebration of the Epiphany, will be presented at Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave. on Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 12 at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and Jan. 13 at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. Complete with period costumes, live animals and the glorious music of the Christmas season, the Boar's Head Festival celebrates the birth of Christ and the coming of the three kings. Seats are still available for some performances, so call the Boar's Head Festival ticket office at 733-4759 for information. The ticket office at Trinity Church will be open Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. for walk-in ticket sales. Ticket prices are $19 for adults and $13 for children under 12.
WILBRAHAM THE ALPHA COURSE Evangel Assembly will be offering "The Alpha Course," an eleven week session. It will be held on Sunday evenings beginning Jan. 20 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. at 348 Stony Hill Rd.
