BASEBALL TRYOUTS
The E.L. Rec. Dept. announces baseball tryouts for the spring season as follows: grades 3 & 4 intown March 13, H.S. Large Gym, A - D 5:30 p.m., E - L 6:15 p.m., M - P 7 p.m., R - Z 7:45 p.m. Second graders may also tryout. Grades 3 & 4 travel March 15, H.S. Large Gym, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., no grade 2. Grades 5 & 6 intown & travel March 15, H.S. Large Gym, A - D 1 p.m., E - L 1:45 p.m., M - P 2:30 p.m., R - Z 3:15 p.m. Grades 5 & 6 travel (also these dates) March 28 and April 5, Memorial Field, 1 - 4 p.m. Info will be handed out in the Office to those who register. INTOWN SOCCER DEADLINE
The E.L. Rec. Dept. reminds parents that the deadline to register for intown soccer is March 14. Those presently in kindergarten - 5th Grade are eligible to register (no 3rd - 5th grade boys league, however). Come into the Rec. Dept., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Mon. - Fri. to register.

SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB
The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will host their Lemon Pie Fundraiser and play BINGO on March 13 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. Luncheon is American Chop Suey, green beans and Jello. Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for noon lunch reservations.

IRS STIMULUS PAYMENTS FOR SENIORS
Senior citizens who have already filed a 2007 federal tax return or who plan to do not need to do anything else to receive a tax stimulus payment. Seniors who do not normally file a federal tax return need to know that there is a specific form that needs to be filed in order to receive their stimulus payment. Those who need help completing the form or who have questions should call Janice Michaelis at the E.L. Council on Aging at 525-5424, who will be setting up appointments to assist with these forms through April 30. You must make an appointment for this service.

CELTIC DANCERS TO PERFORM
Come see an Irish step dance performance on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, at 12:15 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. The dancers, ages five - 15, study at the Dance Dimensions studio in E.L. The performance is free and open to the public. Lunch will be baked chicken, roasted potato, mixed vegetables and pears. Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for noon lunch reservations.

MAH JONG ANYONE?
Are you interested in learning how to play Mah Jong? We will be offering four weeks of instruction in two-hour classes on Tuesday afternoons, beginning in April. Classes are free and open to everyone. Please sign up in the Senior Center office.

NEW LUNCH AND LEARN PROGRAM
Come join us for lunch at the Pleasant View Senior Center and learn a little something while you're here. On March 19 we will welcome representatives from the Stavros Center for Independent Living, who will speak at 12:30 about free and reduced-cost phone equipment available through Verizon for those with a certifiable hearing, sight, or mobility difficulty. Luncheon is sweet n' sour meatballs, rice, Maui-blend vegetables and peaches. Call at least one day ahead to reserve yours. Brown baggers also welcome, or just come for the presentation following lunch.

TOWN SHREDDING EVENT
Don't forget to bring personal and financial documents you no longer need to the Pleasant View Senior Center on March 15 from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. If you can do so, please bring a canned good for the Open Pantry in exchange for this free service.

GARDENING WORKSHOP
Join us on March 24 at 7 p.m. at the E.L. Public Library Community Room where Master Gardener Elaine Williamson will present "Gardening to Attract Birds and Butterflies." Williamson is a member of the Western Mass. Master Gardeners, a volunteer organization whose mission is to educate the public on horticultural matters. This program is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Friends of the East Longmeadow Public Library. Please register at the library or call 525-5400 ext. 153.

CRAFTERS WANTED
The First Congregational Church at the rotary is currently in the process of accepting applications for their annual Craft Fair which will be Nov. 1 from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Spaces will be offered indoors on the first, second and lower levels as well as out on the front lawn. GREATER SPRINGFIELD
CANCER HOUSE OF HOPE PROGRAMS
The Cancer House of Hope will offer five new free-of-charge programs for people with cancer, as well as their families and friends. The Springfield House, 946 Plumtree Rd., is offering A Helping Hand: Mom's Support Group at 10 a.m., the third Tuesday of each month, starting March 18. Life-Coaching at 6:30 p.m. every other Thursday, starting April 3. Walking Towards Wellness 8 - 9 a.m. every Saturday, April 5 - May 31. Blake Track & Field, Springfield College, Alden Street. The Westfield House, 86 Court St. is offering Writing for Wellness at 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday, starting May 14. Men's Social & Support Group at 7 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. WOMEN'S RUNNING CLUB
The Pioneer Valley Women's Running Club of Western MA/N. CT (PVWRC) will
conduct a 10-week "Walk-to-Run" clinic for women of all ages and abilities April 8 - June 10, Tuesday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Women over age 18 are encouraged to join. Women must be able to walk 30 minutes non-stop and be in good physical condition. Cost for this program is $35, which entitles participants toward $5 off club membership. The fee will be applied to the PVWRC Annual Scholarship Fund given out each June to a female high school athlete with a history in running. GOOD FRIDAY NIGHT CONCERT
All are welcome March 21 at 7:30 p.m to The Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel as the Cathedral Choir of Boys and Adults performs spirituals, Renaissance and modern choral works as part of their eighth performance of Tenebrae or Darkness on Good Friday Night. This seasonal event is characterized by the gradual extinguishing of all the lights and candles in the cathedral during the course of the music and readings. BENEFIT FISH FRY
There will be a benefit fish fry on March 21 from 4 - 7:30 p.m. at The Cup, 240 Westfield St. (Rte. 20) in West Springfield to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. Orders will be taken from the menu. Call ahead for take out orders at 746-9424.

St. Patrick's Day Party
The Recreation Association of Hampden is pleased to announce the Third Annual St. Patrick's Day Party. LONGMEADOW
SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING
There will be a meeting of the Longmeadow School Committee's Financial Sub-Committee on March 17. The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the School Committee Room.

TOWN COMMITTEE MEETING
The Longmeadow Republican Town Committee Meeting will host its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on March 12 at the Greenwood Senior Center. The meeting will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited and welcome.

COMMUTER RAIL MEETING
The Pioneer Valley Advocates for Commuter Rail will host a meeting on March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at 688 Bliss Rd. They invite anyone interested in learning about the proposed commuter rail line for Springfield and the $152 million in new economic activity it could generate for our region. At a cost of $30 million for Massachusetts, this project is not yet in the Transportation Bond Bill. The PVACR formed last year to educate residents, businesses, and government officials about the benefits this line could have for our region. For more information visit www.pvacr.org.

ARENTS' NIGHT AT LHS
Longmeadow High School will host parent conferences on March 13 from 6 - 8 p.m. Parents will be given an opportunity to visit with each of their child's teachers for a five-minute meeting. Students will be given a sign up sheet to take to each teacher you would like to meet with. Guidance counselors and administrators will be available during these times.

NEW PILATES CLASSES
Take advantage of this safe, sensible system of body conditioning to improve one's core strength, flexibility and agility. Beginners or repeaters classes take place at 10:30 a.m. and Intermediates meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Longmeadow Adult Center, Fridays, March 14 - May 2. Call 565-4150.

GOLF LESSONS BEGIN
On Wednesdays, March 12 - April 16 PGA pro Bob Lake begins the season with two introductory classes for beginners or just to brush up on your game in our gym at 9 a.m. at the Longmeadow Adult Center. Weather permitting, he plans to continue lessons starting March 26 at 10 a.m. at Fenway Golf Range, Porter Rd., E. Longmeadow. All abilities and ages welcome. Must register at 565-4150.

SPRINGFIELD
SIXTEEN ACRES SIDEWALK MEETING
There will be a meeting on March 18 at 5 p.m. at the Marine Kasparian Center, route 212, 60 Alton Street in Springfield. (Behind the High School of Science and Technology). The meeting will be to discuss possible construction of sidewalks on many Sixteen Acres streets. For example, South Branch Parkway, Slater Ave and Wilbraham Road. All people for or against the construction are welcome to attend.

ADULT FITNESS/WELLNESS FAIR
The Springfield YMCA is hosting a "New Attitude New You" Fit Fair for adults on March 22 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Health screenings will be provided for blood pressure, cholesterol levels, glucose levels and body composition. Free: physical therapy and chiropractic assessments, product samples, raffle prizes, total body health and beauty tips, basic financial and consulting tips, healthy food and soft drink samples, fitness wear fashion show, salsa dance lessons, group exercise class demos, child watch fun center while parents browse the fair, membership information, tours of the facility and more! ST. PATRICK'S DAY
The Hungry Hill Center's annual St. Patrick's Day party will be March 17 from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Hungry Hill Center, lower level of Our Lady of Hope Church. Irish entertainment, food and raffles will fill your afternoon. Donations of baked goods, etc. are most welcome. This event is free and open to all adults.

SPRINGFIELD STAR
The city's Department of Elder Affairs "Springfield Star" is available at the Hungry Hill Center. Volunteers are needed to distribute this monthly publication to area businesses, etc. Call the center at 733-9411 for more info.

FREE BLOOD PRESSURE
The Chicopee Visiting Nurse Association will offer free blood pressure and glucose readings, which requires fasting, on March 10 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Hungry Hill Center, lower level of Our Lady of Hope Church.

PEDI-CARE
Nurses from Pedi-care will be at the Hungry Hill Center on March 19 to offer a foot care service. There is a fee for this service and appointments are necessary. Call the Hungry Hill Center at 733-9411 for appts.

TRIP TO MAINE
St. Peter's Episcopal Church, located at 45 Buckingham St., will have its annual bus trip to Kittery Maine on July 12. The bus will leave the Big Y parking lot on Boston Road at 8 a.m. and return around 8 p.m. For tickets or questions please call Vera O'Connor at 783-9824.

"THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES"
In this Obie Award-winning episodic play about the vagina as a tool of female empowerment and the ultimate embodiment of individuality, different women deliver monologues relating to the vagina through sex, love, rape, birth, orgasm, mutilation or other topics. Proceeds will go to programs to end violence against women. The show will be performed by Springfield College student actresses; presented by Springfield College Students Against Violence Everywhere (S.A.V.E.) March 28 - 29, 7 p.m. in Appleton Auditorium, Fuller Arts Center, Springfield College.

AMERICAN GIRLS WORKSHOPS
Every month, fans of the American Girls books and dolls get together to discuss the books and learn about historical events featured in the books by playing games, making crafts, having a snack and seeing other library materials related to the era portrayed in the book. Girls aged eight - 12 are welcome to join the club! Meetings take place at the East Springfield Branch Library, located at 21 Osborne Terr. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required! PRE-GED CLASSES
Have you thought about taking the GED, but think you need some refresher classes first? The Springfield City Library has openings in the free evening Pre-GED classes offered through its Read/Write/Now program. In small, supportive classes, adults can focus on improving the reading, writing and math skills necessary for GED success. Students also have opportunities to work on computer skills. This class meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 - 8:30 p.m. at the Pine Point Branch Library, 204 Boston Rd. SURROGATE PROGRAM
Stavros Surrogate Program, March 26 at 11 a.m., registration required. Many disabled people and caregivers are not aware that they can remain living in their homes through Stavros Personal Assistance Services program. This program provides money for disabled people to hire whomever they choose to be their personal care worker and assistance with finding a volunteer surrogate. GOOD FRIDAY MUSICAL DRAMA
"Once Upon A Tree" by Pepper Choplin, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church, 915 Plumtree Rd. The story takes us to the depth of human suffering and lifts us to the ultimate victory over death. If the biblical account of Jesus' death and resurrection was simply a work of literature, its dramatic power could stand beside the greatest of Shakespearean plays. But to those who would believe, it transcends literature and defines the meaning of life itself. One performance only on March 21. Come early; all are welcome.

WILBRAHAM
K-9 UNIT FUNDRAISER
On March 19 from 5 - 7 p.m., the Ludlow Elks will be having a benefit spaghetti supper to support the Wilbraham Police K-9 unit. The price of the supper is $5 and consists of spaghetti and meatballs, salad, dessert and beverage. The Wilbraham Police K-9, Officer Ben and his handler Officer Joseph Brewer will be on hand to meet supporters and give a demonstration. Tickets can be obtained at the door the night of the event.

RAD PROGRAM FOR KIDS
The Wilbraham Police Department will once again be hosting a r.a.d.KIDS class, for kids ages nine - 12. The class will run April 21 - 25 at the YMCA from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Contact the YMCA in order to sign your child up; class size is limited to 10 - 12 students. RECYCLING STICKERS
Disposal and Recycling Center auto stickers are available for purchase year round at the Collector's Office. You may also use your original invoice and purchase through the mail. Don't forget to enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of your sticker and payment stub to ensure proper credit to your account. Any questions, please call 596-2814.

STUDENT/FACULTY GAME
On April 4 at 7 p.m. the Minnechaug Regional High School faculty will challenge our senior class to basketball. The faculty dance team will once again perform along with an appearance by the Minnechaug Falcon mascot. There will be a 50/50 raffle, a Marco Polo contest, and a free throw shoot-out by members of the student body. This event is open to everyone in the Minnechaug community. Admission is $5 and tickets may be purchased at the door. The event benefits the Class of 2009 and 2010 to defray senior year expenses.

"BID FOR SPRING" PARTY
The Wilbraham Women's Club will host their annual "Bid for Spring" Card and Game Party on March 27 at noon at St. Cecilia Church Parish Center, 42 Main St. Come enjoy an afternoon with friends and play your favorite games or just join us for a finger-tip lunch. Prizes and raffles. Donation of $5. Reservations 596-8173. This event is a scholarship and community service fundraiser.
