EAST LONGMEADOW
SUMMER PROGRAM BROCHURE
Look for the E. Long. Recreation Department "Summer Program Brochure" in the April 14 edition of The Reminder. Chock full of programming, including Pine Knoll Day program, tennis, sport clinics, mad science, youth golf and more. Flyer will be available in the office after April 1.

CHEERLEADING REGISTRATIONS
The East Longmeadow Recreation Department is beginning registrations for residents for the "Fall Cheerleading Program." Those who will be entering grades 3 - 8 in the fall are eligible. Fee is $60. Season runs from June - October. Tryouts will be held at the end of April. Come into the Rec. Dept., Monday - Friday, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. to register.

NASA MAD SCIENCE PROGRAM
The East Longmeadow Recreation Department has a great program during April School Vacation for those in grades 2 -6 who want to learn more about forces of flight and challenges of space travel. Build your own rocket and launch. Fee is $175 for this five-day program, from 9 a.m. - noon. Come into the Rec. Dept. Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to register.

SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB
Come be treated to a jazzy musical performance by the East Longmeadow High School Jazz Band on April 3 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. Luncheon is beef stew with potato and mixed vegetables, buttermilk biscuits, oatmeal raisin cookie. MAKE YOUR OWN JEWELRY
Make your own jewelry with Sandy Merrill at the Pleasant View Senior Center on April 7 at 9:30 a.m. No registration necessary $2 for instruction plus the cost of supplies.

LUNCH AND LEARN
Learn how to de-clutter your life and reduce stress with "The Clutter Doctor," Carleen Hoffman, on April 16 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center. If coming for noon luncheon, please call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for reservations. Menu will be Rita's Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, and Jello. GOLF LESSONS FOR SENIORS
A six-week session of golf lessons for seniors will begin on April 16 from 1 - 2 p.m. at the Bob Lake Learning Center, Fenway Golf Range. Rain dates will be May 28 and June 4. MEET THE AUTHORS

PRESERVING WEALTH
John G. Dee, President of Wealth Preservation Group Inc., will speak about, "The Greatest Dangers Retirees Face," on April 23 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St.

LINE DANCING WITH DEBBIE TRACY
An eight-week session of line dancing begins again at the Pleasant View Senior Center on April 25 at 4 p.m. Pre-register for this popular class in the Senior Center office. Cost for 8-week session is $24, payable to instructor at first class.

GREATER SPRINGFIELD
PIONEER VALLEY STAMP CLUB
The Pioneer Valley Stamp Club will meet on April 8 and 22 at The First United Church of Christ on Rte. 5 (corner of Longmeadow and Williams Streets). Activities for the evening include a mini-auction and a short meeting. SHERIFF'S SPRINT TRIATHLON
Country Bank for Savings will serve as event sponsor for this fourth Annual Sprint Triathlon. F.I.R.M. (Fiske Independent Race Management) will be the race manager. This is a great event for the triathlon beginner and is open to anyone up to the challenge ranging from the serious athlete to the weekend warrior. SQUARE DANCE
The Quabbin Valley Twirlers Square Dance Club will sponsor a square dance on April 12. The dance will take place at the St. George's Church Hall at 33 Maple St., Chicopee. All western style square dancers and spectators are welcome. There will be a plus workshop at 7:30 p.m. and a Mainstream dance from 8 until 10:30 p.m. Donation is $6 per person. NARFE MEETING
The Nation Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Chapter 221, will meet on April 4 in Vincent Hall, Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave., Springfield. NEWCOMERS COFFEE
Just moved to Wilbraham or Hampden? Want to meet people? Need to find out where to shop? Come to the Village Caf on Main Street, Wilbraham, across from Louis and Clark Pharmacy on April 5 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. for coffee and conversation with some members of the Wilbraham-Hampden Welcome Wagon Club. MUSIC FOR LITTLE PEOPLE AT LIBRARY
Children ages newborn to age five are invited to Hampden Public Library April 2 at 11 a.m. to dance, shake and laugh with their friends. Presented by Music for Little People, a local business with multiple area locations, children will enjoy a morning of music and fun in a warm and supportive environment. Free, but pre-registration is requested and drop-ins are always welcome. Approximate duration is 45 minutes. HAMPDEN GARDEN CLUB MEETING
The Hampden Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the season on April 17 at 7 p.m. at Academy Hall on Main Street. Esteemed local gardening expert Larry Lirot will present a slide presentation on gardens of the British Isles. New members and guests are welcome at Hampden Garden Club meetings. On April 19, club volunteers will hold an Earth Day Putter at Thornton Burgess School from 9 to 11 a.m.

FREE DEMONSTRATION
The Hampden Senior Center, 104 Allen St., Hampden, has scheduled a free demonstration of "Ikebana", the Japanese art of flower arranging on April 11 at 10 a.m. Please call 566-5588 for more information. An opportunity to sign up for May classes will be available.

GAME DAYS
Thursday and Friday are game days at the Hampden Senior Center. Join us on Thursdays from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for Dominos; and at noon for Cribbage. On Fridays at noon join us for an exciting afternoon of Mahjongg.

TRIPS
The Hampden Senior Center, 104 Allen St. is considering future trips for the summer and fall months; exact dates have not yet been determined. In August, a trip to Suffolk Downs is planned including a great Senior Package for $44 per person. In late September a trip to the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum and lunch for $62 per person; and West Point Academy, lunch and boat trip for $79 per person are scheduled. KALEIDOSCOPE OF CULTURES
Bay Path College Women of Culture student club will present a performance and international sampling of foods in their annual "Kaleidoscope of Cultures Taste of the World" event, taking place April 3 from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Blake Dining Commons. Admission is $5 and registration is required. Traditional dance in native costume will be performed by Bay Path students and exotic foods from Georgia, India, Korea, Thailand and Jamaica will be featured. TURNER PARK UPDATE
Turner Park athletic fields are closed for use due to renovations. Please keep off the fields in order for us to complete the process. We thank you for your understanding.

ANNUAL PANCAKE BREAKFAST
Join us for pancakes, maple syrup, sausage, juice and coffee on May 17 at the Longmeadow Community House, 735 Longmeadow St., from 7 - 10 a.m. Advanced tickets are on sale now at the Community House and Greenwood Center and are $6 for adults, $3 for children six and under. JOHN BARKMAN MEMORIAL FISHING DERBY
A Longmeadow tradition, especially for children three - 14. Laurel Pond will be stocked with hungry trout. Kids bring their own tackle and families enjoy a great community fellowship day. There will be prizes for first fish, longest fish and most fish caught in each age division. This is a free event! Pre-registration is not required. The Fishing Derby will take place May 4 from 9 - 11 a.m. at Laurel Pond.

AMERICAN GIRL WORKSHOP
The March 1 workshop has been rescheduled to May 3. Those who already enrolled need not register again. There is still room for new enrollees to learn all about the latest historical doll, Julie Albright, while sewing and decorating a fabric purse using jean material and felt flowers. We will also enjoy refreshments and play American Girl games. There will be American Girl books, clothing and accessories available at discounted prices. There is limited space available for care of Longmeadow children in grades 1 - 6 during school vacation weeks, sign up now to ensure your spot! Children will take part in a wide variety of fun activities, field trips, outdoor play, etc. Send a bag lunch daily. "LETTING OFF STEAM"

APRIL VACATION OPEN SWIM

SPRINGTIME IN NEW YORK CITY
Celebrate spring by spending a day strolling the streets of NYC. You plan the day. Stops will be along 5th Ave. beginning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through Canal Street in lower Manhattan. Pick up info and maps on the bus. Staff from Longmeadow Parks & Rec. Dept. will be along to supervise and provide info. Trip dates are April 12 and June 7. MEN'S BASKETBALL
Evening pick up games at Glenbrook Gym provide the opportunity for a great work out, competition and fun. Pay for the whole season in advance or on a walk in basis. Players must be out of high school to participate. Program meets on Thursdays from 8:30 - 10 p.m. at Glenbrook Middle School. No program on no school days. Enroll online at www.LPRD.net.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
This program offers a high level of play for advanced participants. Pick-up games start at 7:30 p.m. and teams call their own violations. Program meets on Wednesdays from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Williams Middle School Gym. No program on no school days. Enroll online at www.LPRD.net.

CO-ED VOLLEYBALL
Pick up games are non-officiated, with teams calling their own violations. This fun, non-competitive atmosphere allows players to improve their skills. It's a great way to stay active and meet new people. Players with basic volleyball skills are urged to join. KARATE SHOTOKAN STYLE
Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation (SKIF System) includes an international standardized syllabus of stretching, kihon (basic), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring). Students train in the basic excersices involving punching, blocking, kicking, stances, forms, sparring and self-defense. This class is open to all ages and levels. Sign up to attend either youth classes on Tuesdays or the adult classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the Adult and Child Class combined on Thursdays. ANNUAL CENSUS
The Town Clerk is requesting that any residents that have not answered the 2008 Annual Census to please do so as soon as possible. This will avoid the cost of creating a second mailing. If any resident did not receive a census they should contact the Town Clerk's office at 565-4103.

SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING
There will be a meeting of the Longmeadow School Committee Financial Sub-Committee on March 31. The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the school's central office room #5, 127 Grassy Gutter Rd.

FAIRY TALES AND STORIES
The Storrs Library will celebrate the spring season with Fairy Tales & Stories on April 12. The program will feature stories, games, crafts and snacks. Come in your favorite fairy costume if you like. Join us at 11 a.m. for an hour full of fantasy and fun. Children ages five and above are welcome to attend. FIFTIES NIGHT AT EASTFIELD MALL
Joe Canata and the Memories will bring the 1950s back to Eastfield Mall on April 4 from 6 - 8 p.m. for the Shriners Hospital for Children's 50's Night. SPRING BOTTLE DRIVE
Cub Scout Pack 359 in Wilbraham will be hosting a can and bottle drive on April 19 from 8 a.m. - noon in the parking lot of St. Cecilia's Church.
