EAST LONGMEADOW
CHORAL GROUP
On May 24 the members of the Wilbraham Women's Club Choral Group will sing their spring program for the residents of Bluebird Estates on Parker Street. The concert will begin at 2:15 p.m. On May 27 at 1 p.m. the group will sing for the Wilbraham United Church Women's Guild on Main Street in Wilbraham.

AMERICAN LEGION DINNER
The American Legion will host a dinner dedicated in memory of Edward Kopek Sr. (1951-2010) on May 27 from 6 - 7 p.m. at 3 Legion Ct. Menu: stuffed pork chop, rice pilaf, mixed vegetables, garden salad, rolls and butter, soda and coffee with cookies and brownies for dessert. Other drinks available at bar at extra cost. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Wingate at East Longmeadow, 32 Chestnut St., is seeking one day a week volunteers (gift shop cashier, 1 - 4 p.m. small shop, in-house customers only; duties collect cash, record sales); (bingo assistant, Mon., 6 - 7:30 p.m. or Sat., 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.; duties work with other volunteers to assist residents and coordinate games). CRAFTERS FOR HOLIDAY FAIR

SR. FRIENDSHIP CLUB 90+ B'DAYS
The E.L. Senior Friendship Club will celebrate 90-plus birthdays May 20 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., following a noon luncheon of chicken Cordon Bleu, baked potato, cauliflower au gratin and chocolate pudding ($3). A special dessert will be provided by Glenmeadow. COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION
We will be distributing commodities on May 19 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the senior center. To qualify you must be an E.L. resident of any age and show proof of need. Commodities are distributed four times a year; this will be the second distribution for 2010. If you need a ticket, sign up in the Senior Center office prior to May 19. No commodities will be given without a ticket.

FITNESS AND THE ELDERLY
Ross Davis, MSPT, MBA, Director of Specialty Programs at Gentiva Health Services, will be at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St. on May 26 at 1 p.m. to demonstrate examples of exercise to increase muscle strength using little or no equipment.

MANICURES FOR SENIORS
Melissa from Melissa's Traveling Salon will givie manicures every two weeks at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., beginning May 28. Appts. between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. at a cost $10. Call 525-5436 to schedule an appt. Future dates are June 11 and 25.

BALLROOM DANCE RE-SCHEDULED
Ballroom dance at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., has been re-scheduled to May 24 at 1:30 p.m.

VETERANS COFFEE HOUR CANCELLED
The Veterans Coffee Hour at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., has been cancelled for May, and there will be no meetings during the summer months. Meetings will resume Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m.

BLOOD PRESSURE, GLUCOSE TESTS
Capuano Care does free blood pressure, glucose and total cholesterol screenings the first Fri. of each month at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St., 8 - 9 a.m. No appt. necessary.

BOOK CLUB
The Book Club meets the last Tues. of every month at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 N. Main St. The book for May is "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. The Book Club is free and open to new members at any time.

BOCCE TOURNAMENT
The Pleasant View Senior Center and UNICO are sponsoring an opening day tournament at the Pleasant View Bocce Courts June 12 (times TBD.) Teams of two are forming now ($25 per team). Everyone invited for hamburgers, hot dogs, fun. Call 525-5436 to register your team.

SUMMER CAMP PROGRAMS
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is taking registrations for Pine Knoll summer program running June 28 - Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. for children ages 4 - grade 8. PIONEER VALLEY FALL SOCCER
The E.L. Rec. Dept. is, taking registrations for the Pioneer Valley Fall soccer program. Those born after 8/1/96 - 8/1/2001 are eligible to try out. Final registration is June 16 by 4 p.m. (after that date, late fee applies). Try outs will be June 19 at Birchland Park Middle School participant must be registered. GREATER SPRINGFIELD
DIAL-A-LAWYER PROGRAM
Residents of Western Mass. can receive free legal advice on May 26 through the Mass. Bar Assoc.'s semiannual Dial-A-Lawyer call-in program. Volunteer lawyers from the MBA will field phone calls from 3:30 - 7:30 p.m. only from residents of Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties who have legal concerns or problems. The legal advice is provided at no charge as a public service of the MBA. The Dial-A-Lawyer phone number is 782-1659. If a caller gets a busy signal, they are asked to hang up and try again.

TOBACCO VALLEY ARTISTS SHOW
The Tobacco Valley Artists Assoc. Spring Member Show, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kent Memorial Library Gallery, 50 North Main St., Suffield, Conn. The show will feature members artwork judged by Bill Butcher, head of the art dept. at Suffield Academy, and will include a reception, awards and short business meeting. Members are welcome to bring in a painting for a positive critique by Butcher. The public is welcome to attend. Paintings will be on display for the month of May.

HAMPDEN
TURTLE DAY AT LAUGHING BROOK
Come to Turtle Day at Laughing Brook and learn about turtles from Mass Audubon staff and fourth grade students at the Green Meadows Elementary School. Meet a live turtle, learn about the turtle species in the state and their status and take a natural history walk at Laughing Brook Wildlife Sanctuary. Bring a picnic lunch if you choose. Open to all ages; admission is free, but preregistration is required. LEARN TO CABLE KNIT
Storrs Library will host a Learn to Cable Knit program. Students with existing ability to knit and pearl will learn how to knit a cable, use stitch markers, increase and decrease. With these newly acquired skills, knitters can make a beautiful gift during class time. A max. materials fee of $20 is due at the first class. Fee will vary based on supplies each participant requires, but instructors will provide materials as needed. MOTHER/DAUGHTER BOOK GROUP
Storrs Library will host its Mother & Daughter Book Group on May 25 from 6 - 7:45 p.m. This discussion group is open to students in grades 6 - 8 and meets monthly. The Adult Center will screen "Invictus" May 21 at 12:30 p.m. Nelson Mandela made a statesman's decision to use rugby to unite his splintered country when he was elected president in 1994. It was just one of many strategies in real life, but it takes center stage as director Clint Eastwood makes this brutal game an allegory for what tough, dirty work the business of nation building can be. Absentee ballot for the upcoming Annual Town Election scheduled for May 22 are now available in her office for those voters who will be absent from the town during polling hours, physically disabled preventing them from going to the polls or religious belief.
