EAST LONGMEADOW LIONS CLUB WELCOMES DIRECTOR Robert Zucker, Director of Sales, Asia for Spalding Corporation will be joining the E.L. Lions Club for their Nov. 14 dinner meeting to be held at the Elmcrest Country Club. The title of Zucker's talk is "China, Spalding & Counterfeits A micro review of a macro problem." The social starts at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner meeting at 6:30. The cost of the chef's choice meal is $14 and reservations can be made up to Nov. 12, 9 p.m. by calling 525-0270. THANKSGIVING SERVICE East Longmeadow churches to hold Ecumenical Thanksgiving service sponsored by seven local churches: Faith Tabernacle Community Bible, First Congregational UCC, St. Luke's Greek Orthodox, St. Mark's Episcopal, St. Michael's Roman Catholic, St. Paul's Lutheran and the United Methodist. Come join your neighbors for music by Church Choirs, Praise and Thanks, A time of Sharing and a Time of Prayer. Nov. 18, 7 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle, 11 Kibbe Rd. There will also be a collection of non-perishable food for baskets to be distributed to the less fortunate.
ANNUAL CRAFT & VENDOR NIGHT The Mapleshade School PTO is looking for crafters/vendors for its annual craft & vendor night being held Nov. 29 from 5 - 9. p.m. If interested please call Michele Martinelli at 525-9510.
RE-OPENING DATE FOR SENIOR CENTER The Pleasant View Senior Center will officially re-open for general use on Nov. 19. Special events scheduled earlier in the month will still be held, but normal day-to-day activities and programs should adhere to their current relocation sites unless specifically notified by the activities coordinator. COMMODITIES DISTRIBUTION We will be distributing commodities on Nov. 7 from 1 - 3 p.m. To qualify you must be an East Longmeadow resident of any age and show proof of need. This will be the final distribution for 2007. If you need a ticket, please call the Senior Center office @ 525-5436. No commodities will be given without a ticket.
SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CLUB The East Longmeadow Senior Friendship Club will be entertained by Liz Carter's guitar and vocals on Nov. 8 at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. Luncheon is roast beef, mashed potatoes w/gravy, peas & carrots, and sugar-free Jello for dessert. Call 525-5436 at least one day in advance for noon lunch reservations.
VETERANS' DAY LUNCHEON The E.L. Council on Aging would like to thank our local veterans by honoring them with a luncheon on Nov. 14 with ceremonies beginning at 11 a.m. Luncheon is free for veterans ($1.75 for guests), and will be held at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. The menu will be chicken w/sage stuffing, tossed salad w/rolls & butter, mashed potato, green beans and dessert. Seating is limited, so please call the Senior Center early for reservations @ 525-5436.
FLU CLINIC Our flu clinic has been scheduled for Nov. 27 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center, 328 North Main St. on a walk-in basis. This year's vaccine will be given to E.L. seniors and residents with general health problems. Those who are allergic to eggs should not take the vaccine. There will be no make-up date this year, please call the nurse @ 525-5436 if you need an alternative date for your flu shot.
TAX EDUCATION SEMINAR H&R Block will be providing a free service to the community on Nov. 28 @ 10 a.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center. You will get the latest information for managing your 2007 tax liability who needs to file a tax return, how much you can earn before your social security benefits are impacted, how to report gambling winnings/losses, retirement plan considerations, sale of investments. Receive answers to your most pressing questions during this timely seminar.
HEALTH PLAN OPTIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH MEDICARE A presentation will be offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield on Nov. 28 @ 1:30 p.m. at the Pleasant View Senior Center. It will include an explanation of Medicare, including the new Medicare Part D drug benefit. It will also show how Medigap plans and Medicare Advantage plans work with Medicare. All are welcome regardless of insurance coverage. A question and answer session will follow.
PITCH By popular demand, Pitch is now being held weekly at Inward Commons on Mondays. Play starts at 12:30 p.m. WOMENS AEROBICS The E.L. Rec. Dept. announces the second session of Women's Aerobics will begin the week of Nov. 19 for 10 weeks on M/W at 6 p.m. and T/TH at either 5 or 6 p.m. Fee is $35 for residents and $50 for non-res. (Seniors 60 and over take a $5 Discount). Classes should resume at Pleasantview by then. Please call Office to confirm this. Come into the Rec. Dept. to register.
"TURKEY HUNT" Help us find 10 turkeys hidden in the E.L. Library! Get a clue sheet in the children's department and use the clues to track down the turkeys. Do not take the turkey! Simply write the turkey's number next to his clue and return the completed clue sheet to the children's desk. If it is correct you will receive a prize!
MUSIC TOGETHER The next Music Together program at the E.L. Library will be Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m. For infants - age 4. Music Together for ages 4 - 6 will take place at 6:30 p.m.

LONGMEADOW Junior Imagineers Meets at Storrs Library Join us on Nov. 9 from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. at the Storrs Library for our new Junior Imagineers Club. PILATES CLASSES A new session begins for this great method of body conditioning, a favorite of the celebrities, at the Longmeadow Adult Center from Nov. 9 - Jan. 4. MONIQUE AND THE MANGO RAINS As part of its fall semester Kaleidoscope Series, Bay Path College brings Northampton-based author Kris Holloway to campus to discuss her memoir "Monique and the Mango Rains." CHRISTMAS ON THE GREEN First Church of Christ in Longmeadow will hold its Annual Christmas Fair "Christmas.on the Green" on Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. The church is located at the corner of Williams and Longmeadow Streets in Longmeadow. THANKSGIVING FOOTBALL GAME Attention Longmeadow High school graduates: Just a reminder that this year's Thanksgiving Day football game against E. Long. will be played in Longmeadow at 10 a.m. This year we are hoping to start a new tradition of recognizing former Longmeadow High school football players during a half time ceremony. THE PARADISE GARDEN On Nov. 16, the Springfield Garden Club's November meeting at the hall of the Wilbraham United Church, Main St., Wilbraham will begin with a tea at 11:30 a.m. The featured program, given by Marie Stella, will discuss Persian and Islamic traditions in gardening. WILBRAHAM POTTER PRESENTATION On Dec. 2 in both the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services, Evangel Assembly will be hosting a special presentation by Marilyn Dean. Dean is a potter and has been ministering with clay and her potter's wheel since 1977. Her unique calling as a potter has opened doors in many churches from all denominational backgrounds where she has performed live demonstrations and shared the dynamic truths found in the Bible through the analogies and metaphors of the Potter and the clay.
