AGAWAM
FLU CLINIC
Flu clinics for those Agawam residents 65 and over will take place at the Senior Center on Oct. 24 and 31 from 1 - 3:30 p.m. Bring your insurance cards.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT
The Agawam Public Library will present for the month of October a photography exhibit by local resident Geraldine Schilling-Nordal. The exhibit covers a wide range of subjects from portraits, nature, interiors, buildings and atmospheres to cityscapes. Some have been taken locally, in Canada and on a cross country trip to and including Alaska. Viewing will be during regular library hours.

DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE BRUNCH
The Agawam Democratic Committee will be honoring State Rep. Rosemary Sandlin as the Democrat of the Year and presenting Joe Fitzpatrick with the Lifetime Achievement Award at their annual brunch on Oct. 19 at Chez Josef at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $25 and can be obtained by contacting Kathy Arnold at 786-1285 or Corinne Wingard at 786-9467.

GARDEN CLUB MEETING
Well-known local expert Bill Hutchinson will present a program on orchids at the Agawam Garden Club's next meeting on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Captain Charles Leonard House, 663 Main St. There may be some orchids available for purchase. The Agawam Garden Club's programs are open to the public, and new members are always welcome. A $2 guest fee is requested for non-members.

FOXWOODS TRIP
A trip to Foxwoods on Oct. 8 leaving from American Legion on Exchange Street at 7:15 a.m. Cost is $20, includes bonus free buffet and $15 keno play. For more info call Dot at 788-6835.

SPAGHETTI SUPPER
The W.F. Davitt Ladies Auxiliary Post 625 located at 374 Front St. will host their spaghetti supper on Oct. 2 from 4 - 6 p.m. Cost is $4.50 for adults and seniors; $4 for children under 12, and $4.75 for take-outs. We serve you. No waiting in line. All monies are used for our veterans, cancer fund, hospital parties, National Home for Children and much more. All food is homemade by our Ladies Auxiliary.

BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC
Valley Opportunity Council/Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is sponsoring a blood pressure clinic on Oct. 6 from 9 - 11 a.m. This is also a cholesterol screening/fasting clinic. This clinic is taking place at 35 Mt. Carmel Ave. on the second floor. Call 612-0219 for further info.

CHICOPEE WOMEN'S JAIL
The Chicopee Council on Aging and the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together Council are sponsoring an evening dinner program featuring keynote speaker Hampden County Sheriff Michael Ashe on Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Chicopee Senior Center. Sheriff Ashe will provide a presentation on the Chicopee Women's Jail. Patricia Murphy, superintendent of the facility, will also be in attendance. Tickets for this special event are $6 and can be purchased in the COA office. Dinner includes chicken breast and wing, baked potato with sour cream, cole slaw, roll, coffee and ice cream. BEADING GROUP
Those who enjoy making beaded jewelry meet twice a month at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. The next sessions are Oct. 9 and 23 in the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. Bring your own materials and be open to sharing. Everyone who is interested is welcome. To register call 534-3698.

COUNCIL ON AGING MEETING
The Chicopee Council on Aging will host their October meeting on Oct. 7 at 4:45 p.m. in the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. The meeting is open to the public.

BASKETBALL TRYOUTS
The Chicopee Parks & Rec. Boys and Girls Suburban Basketball tryouts will start Oct. 14 for the upcoming 2008-09 season for three days. Suburban basketball is a more advanced program that travels and plays other towns and communities throughout the Pioneer Valley. Teams are divided by city demographics on where the student will be attending high school; there is no school choice for teams to tryout for. There will be tryouts for fifth/sixth grade and seventh/eighth grade Chicopee Colts and Packers boys teams on Oct. 14, 16 and 17. Tryouts for the fifth/sixth and seventh/eighth grade Chicopee Colts and Pacers girls teams will be on Oct. 14, 15 and 17. SEMI-ANNUAL ROAST BEEF SUPPER
The First Congregational Church of Chicopee, UCC, 306 Chicopee St., will host a roast beef supper on Oct. 18. The supper is sponsored by the Men's Club with assistance from the Ladies Benevolent Society and others from the congregation. Dinners will be served from 5 - 7 p.m. Menu: roast beef, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, butternut squash, pickled beets, rolls with butter, choice of desserts and coffee, tea or milk. Cost: $9 for adults, $4.50 for children ages six - 12. Younger children are free. Take out dinners are also available. Tickets are to be purchased at the door. Walk-ins are welcome. Reservations will be for 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. and will only be held for 10 mins. They may be made by phone 593-5061.

CHICOPEE FALLS BASKETBALL
The Chicopee Falls Tiger A.C. will host basketball sign-ups for boys and girls at the Tiger A.C. Club, 14 Montgomery St., on Oct. 4 from 3 - 5 p.m. First year players, ages six to eight, are to bring a birth certificate to the sign-ups. Must be six years old and in first grade.

TURNING 65 AND MEDICARE
Jim Zabik from Bankers Life and Casualty is presenting a seminar in the Conference Room of the Chicopee Public Library at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6. The subject covered will be what to do when you turn 65 and want to go on Medicare. For more info call 594-1800 ext. 108.

ANNUAL FALL TAG AND BAKE SALE
Faith United Methodist Church, 191 Montcalm St., will host their annual fall tag and bake sale on Oct. 4, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Bargains, baked goods, jewelry, collectables, clothes, furniture, books, toys and much more. Home-baked goodies available as well. Food will be available all day.

CENTER CLOSING
The Chicopee Senior Center will close after the meals program at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 10. The center will reopen at 8 a.m. on Oct. 14 but exercise programs will be modified. The center is closing for rug cleaning. Volunteers are needed on Friday to help move items from the carpeting and on Tuesday morning to replace everything. Those interested in volunteering should contact the center at 534-3698 to sign up. Volunteers will start at noon on Friday and at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

VOTER REGISTRATION
Persons interested in registering to vote may do so on Oct. 8 from 9 - 11 a.m. in the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. Registrants must provide the last four digits of their social security or driver's license and may do so from memory. Passport applications and renewals will also be provided. This service provided by the Registrar of Voters office is available to anyone in the community. For more info, call the center at 534-3698.

CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH CLASSES
Chella Cutler will offer a series of four classes in conversational Spanish starting Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Chicopee Senior Center, 7 Valley View Ct. Persons of all abilities are welcome. The group is limited to 12 so call to register at 534-3698.

ALDENVILLE POST 337 MEETING
The regular monthly meeting of the Aldenville Post 337 will take place Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the K of C Council 69 on Granby Road. Members are urged to attend.

GREATER SPRINGFIELD
ACTIVE SINGLES
Active Singles (a non-profit group) is sponsoring a singles hike (30s-60s) on Oct. 5 at 9:30 a.m. (arrive at 9 a.m.). The hike is in Torrington, Conn., on Burr Pond. No kids or dogs on the hike. The hikes last two hours each in four skill levels. Non-hikers can join us at the restaurant after the hike. Active Singles sponsors hikes on the first and third Sunday of the month all over the state. There are no dues or fees collected to belong to this group. PRINCESS TEA PARTY AND CONCERT
A princess tea party and concert will take place at the Springfield JCC, Oct. 5, 3 p.m., 1160 Dickinson St. All are welcome. Children can dress up and meet their favorite princesses, listen to popular songs and enjoy a snack and craft. Tickets can be purchased at the Springfield JCC or by calling 739-4715.

NEW YORK CITY TRIP
Tickets are now on sale for a trip to New York City on Dec. 13. The trip is a fundraiser for the Western Massachusetts Coalition for Occupational Safety and Health. Ticket price is $35. The bus will depart West Springfield High School, 425 Piper Rd., at 8 a.m. and will leave NYC at 7:30 p.m. The bus will make several stops in Manhattan. Passengers will be on their own for the day. NATURALIST CLUB HIKE
Benedict Pond, Beartown State Forest, Monterey, Mass., Oct. 11, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Leader: Bill Fontaine. Meeting place: town parking area behind the Otis Fire Department, at the junction of Rtes. 8 and 23. Registration: Call Bill (533-2153). Benedict Pond in Beartown State Forest is undeveloped except for a boat launch and small beach. Trail length is about 2.5 miles, over fairly easy grades. For those who are interested, a short, steep half-mile detour leads to the ledges, with attractive views westward toward Mt. Everett and the Catskills beyond. ALUMNI REUNION

VETERANS' BENEFITS
A program for veterans, their spouses and their children. UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
The United Methodist Church of Holyoke, South Hadley and Granby, 30 Carew St., South Hadley, is offering a thought-provoking series titled "Faith and American Politics: Liberty and Justice for All." This seven-week series will be offered at two different times, Sundays from 9 - 10:30 a.m. and Tuesdays from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Each class will feature a DVD presentation from ministers, judges, professors and others. SMITH COLLEGE TRIP

SOUTHWICK TRAVELERS
The Southwick Travelers announce their cruise for 2009. It is a 10-day Royal Caribbean Cruise on the Explorer of the Seas to Bermuda, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and San Juan. SPRINGFIELD WOMEN'S CLUB
The Springfield Women's Club will host its first meeting of the year on Oct. 15 at Reeds Landing, 807 Wilbraham Rd. The luncheon will begin at 10:15 a.m. with "The Food Dude," radio personality John Walters, who will share ideas on what we eat. Our talented chef will prepare a tasty treat on the spot. In addition Walters will share his views on the best places in the area to dine out. The program will be followed by a short business meeting and lunch in the dining room. A Difficult Boy

GOSPEL CONCERT
St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 45 Buckingham St., will have a Gospel Concert at the church on Oct. 26. The concert is a fundraiser for replacement of the present heating system. Time: 5 p.m. Cost: $10 per person. There will be several local artists that include, the featured artist will be Evenus Thompson. TUESDAY MORNING MUSIC CONCERT
Tuesday Morning Music Concerts will present their gala program on Oct. 7 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave., at 10:30 a.m. Artists on the program include Lisa Woods, mezzo-soprano, and Joel Martin, piano. This is the 107th season of the Tuesday Morning Music Club. Individual concerts are $10; membership for all 12 season concerts is $30. All are welcome to join. WEST SPRINGFIELD
TRAINING POSTPONED
The Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 Hospice Volunteer Training and Oct. 15 - Dec.10 Bereavement Support Group at the West Springfield Senior Center have been postponed with no dates rescheduled at this time. West River Care apologizes for any confusion or inconvenience caused by this change in program and support opportunities.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
A brief "Blessing of the Animals" service will take place on Oct. 5 at Grace Lutheran Church on Route 20. The service will be around 11 a.m. and will take place outdoors if the weather allows. This service is to commemorate St. Francis of Assisi and his love for all of God's creatures. Everyone is invited to bring their pets. For more info, call Rev. Derek Harman at 734-9268.
