CHICOPEE — Lance Cpl. Matthew Zabik was greeted by about 100 friends and family members on July 28 at a reception conducted at American Legion Post 452 on Exchange Street.

Zabik is a 2008 graduate of Chicopee High School who has been in the Marines for two years. He spent the last seven months on a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Noting his return, Zabik received citations from Congressman Richard Neal, State Sen. Michael Knapik, State Rep. Joseph Wagner and the city of Chicopee.

Mayor Michael Bissonnette said Zabik’s safe return was cause for a celebration as Chicopee has lost five of its residents in the Middle East conflicts.
