CHICOPEE -- Since Thanksgiving, Holyoke Catholic High School's performing arts club hasn't missed a beat rehearsing for two one-act comedies in February.
The production, titled "Two One Acts -- Tartuffe & Scapino," will be staged Feb. 5 and 6 in Veritas Auditorium on the Elms College campus. Show time is 7 p.m. both evenings.
Eva Stockhamer, director of the performing arts club and director of "Tartuffe," noted that the production is farce and encourages area residents to come out for the laughs.
"The plays were adapted by the same author into two one acts," she said. "The author took one really classic show and a real farce and made them complement each other in a very funny way."
"Tartuffe" features ornate costumes, Shakespeare style, while "Scapino" is staged "more modern," Stockhamer added.
Working behind the scenes with Stockhamer is PJ Adzima, a junior at Holyoke Catholic, who is also the student director of "Scapino." In addition, Dr. Frank Croke is handling the lighting duties, with Darryl Geoffrey serving as stage manager, assisted by Andrew Beaulieu.
Students performing in "Scapino" include Hannah Garvey, Amanda Bergstrom, Kristen Fraser, Mara Palma, Kelsey Barton, Gillian Cassidy-Payson, Andrea Boraski, Tori Steutzel, Samantha Alves, Mara Sobon, Kevin Lempke, Ryan Johnson, Amy Vieira, Bryan Garcia, Matt Pollette, Kevin O'Connor, Monique Desnoyers and Amaris Gagnon.
Students performing in "Tartuffe" include Dan Rich, Matt Iczokowski, Ben Viens, Joe Kass, Mary MacNeil-Blackmer, Vicky Kachinski, Caitlin Rooke, Patrick Moskal, Julie Geoffrey, Meghan Dumas, Eileen Keegan, Billy Fondakowski, Liza Starzyk, Destiny Vierango, Haley Lannon and Francis Greaney.
"The production is a nice contrast of acting styles and two complete different casts," Stockhamer said. "The cast members put a lot of time and effort into these productions and we love to perform for great audiences."
Tickets are $8 for students and seniors, $10 for adults.
