Dan Asselin of the Chicopee Pacers is the 2010 recipient of the Alan Gorfin Scholarship, awarded by the umpires of the Sandy Koufax Tournament. The scholarship is given to a player who reflects Gorfin's characteristics: courage, integrity, honesty, responsibility and fair play. Asselin, who plays center field and pitches, will be attending American International College in the fall. "It's an honor to be recognized as a good person and as a baseball players too," he said. Asselin (left) is pictured with Bill Bathel, who helps run the Baba Tranghese Sandy Koufax Memorial Baseball Tournament in East Longmeadow.
