SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Exchange Club honored Springfield Police Lt. Charles Cook with its Blue and Gold Award last week. Cook has been a member of the department for 30 years and supervises a unit of the Narcotics Bureau.

Springfield Police Commissioner William Fitchet said making the recommendation for this year's award took him several days of consideration, as there are so many outstanding officers who deserve it. He selected Cook based on his own experiences of working with him for 20 years. Fitchet noted that Cook has been responsible for the seizing of millions of dollars in drug money during arrests he supervised.

Fitchet also said that Cook "always gives credit to his officers. I admire him greatly."

Cook said the award honored him.
