On April 8, Dr. Ken Bernstein stopped by the Hampden Fire Station to present the donation of animal breathing masks for use in emergency situations from Spruce Hill Veterinary Clinic in Springfield. Three sizes of masks, for large dogs, small dogs and cats, along with Ambu breathing bulbs were donated, thanks in part to the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association Charities. "It'll be nice to have these on the trucks in Hampden," Bryan Markham of the Hampden Fire Department said. "We haven't had to pull any pets out of fires yet, but these will definitely be useful someday." (left to right) Dr. Bernstein, Markham and Capt. Pete Nothe of the Wilbraham Fire Department demonstrate how to use a mask on Bernstein's dog Sophie.
