HAMPDEN They marched. They clapped. They shook their noisemakers and instruments.

And if they couldn't, well, Mom or Dad or Grandma did it for them.

Seventeen little ones, each accompanied by a willing grown-up, spent a fun-filled hour at the Hampden Free Public Library on April 2 enjoying the songs and sounds and rhythmic play of a "Music for Little People" program.

According to Youth Services Librarian Christina Fairman, the program was a special event for the library's ongoing infant and toddler program, which meets every Wednesday at 11 a.m.

She said the weekly program, which focuses on introducing children up to age five to the sights and sounds of early reading, usually attracts about 10 participants.

The special music program, led by former home daycare provider turned "Music for Little People" educator Kathy Florence of West Springfield, drew almost double the normal number of children and parents.

Fairman said drop-in visitors to the Wednesday morning programs are always welcome.
