'Y' to host a toy, clothing swap Nov. 14

WILBRAHAM -- It's an event that Scantic Valley YMCA Membership Director Debbie Kelder said "is right in line with our goals to be socially responsible and recognize that there are people in need in this community as well as in surrounding communities."

The event is the Y's third community clothing and toy exchange, slated for Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Y's building, located at 45 Post Office Park.

Now through Nov. 13, the community is invited to bring in donations of gently used, clean clothing, shoes, handbags and toys, which will be displayed in the Y's gymnasium on the 14th.

On the 14th, anyone is welcome to come and fill as many bags as they like for $5 per bag. Medium-size bags will be provided to attendees.

"We've had people come up with tears in their eyes, saying what a difference it has made for their family," Kelder said of previous exchanges.

According to Kelder, the idea for the exchange was brought to the Y by member Deb Facchetti, who had helped with a similar program at a YMCA where she lived previously.

The Y is looking for volunteers to help with this event. Call 596-2749 for more info.
