Did I read a recent news report correctly? Did a Chicopee School Committee member really state that it is ok for a student to attend one of our high schools just to play sports? Not to earn a diploma?

Perhaps I did since that member apparently isn't alone when the School Committee allows a student-athlete to pass just four of seven classes to participate — an average of just 57 percent — and those four classes could earn Ds — but passing, just four of seven is under the average to earn even a D in a class.

Shame on the School Committee members who do not feel student-athletes should have to pass all their classes.
