Identity theft

March 22, 2013
I was taken aback yesterday when I went to the local cable TV office in Chicopee to pay my bill and, while tendering the bill and my check to pay the bill, the clerk asked me for a picture ID.

I questioned her as to when it became necessary to show an ID when you are paying a bill.

Her response to me was "I have to make sure no one is stealing your identity. That is the new rule."

I get it now! I don't need to show an ID when I go to vote, but I must show a picture ID when I go to pay a bill to prevent someone from stealing my ID and presumably paying my bills for me. What has this country come to?
