We are hometown news

Leadership & Experience

The Select Board has reached agreement with all general government and school services on a balanced budget for fiscal year 2010. That s good news! My thanks to Paul Santaniello, Select Board chair, and the School Committee who worked together to resolve what could have been a very disagreeable situation. Furthermore, the Finance Committee has studied this budget and will be recommending it for voter approval at the April 28 town meeting. That s also good news! The second piece of good news is that the Select Board and the town manager have submitted to the state and federal government a request to fund a group of shovel-ready capital projects totaling $5,000,000, an amount which begins to address our $200,000,000 backlog of infrastructure needs. For the moment it appears that town government will be appropriately funded through mid 2010, i.e. the end of the fiscal year 2010. Roger Wojcik Longmeadow
