Red Cross Thankful to Day of Caring Volunteers

It seems there are always a million things to do and never enough hours in a day or week to get things done. Some tasks may literally never get done were it not for the special gift of time shared by volunteers. On Sept. 15, volunteers from MassMutual Financial Group and Cambridge Credit Counseling participated in the United Way Day of Caring and spent the day working very hard to help with a multitude of tasks around our Springfield chapter house. Some painted, some cleaned, some moved boxes and some helped organize our records archives. "These terrific folks helped us out in a very big way," said Brenda Brouillette, deputy director of chapter services for the Pioneer Valley Chapter. "The fact is that these tasks are important, but often get delayed because there just aren't enough hours in a day to get all the work done. "We are so grateful to these terrific volunteers. They showed a great sense of community spirit and we appreciate all the hard work they did on our behalf." The American Red Cross Pioneer Valley Chapter provides disaster relief services; education in community disaster preparedness; training in life-saving skills such as CPR; certified nurse assistant training, EKG and Phlebotomy Technician training; and emergency communications services to our nation's military and their families. The Red Cross depends on community support in so many ways. The United Way Day of Caring is one example of great community partnerships that help make our communities strong. You can help people affected by disasters like floods, fires, tornadoes and hurricanes, as well as countless crises at home and around the world, by making a donation to support American Red Cross disaster relief. Your gift enables the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters. Visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. Contributions may also be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Paige Thayer Deputy Director, Chapter Support
