Our school thanks you
I have been happy to live in Western Massachusetts for the past 30 years. For the last eight of those years, I have been honored to be the Head of Pioneer Valley Montessori School, in Springfield.
The events of the past two weeks have been shocking to me, as they have been to many other people. The experience of a tornado of such magnitude in Springfield was unexpected and frightening to us all.
I have been so moved and heartened by the way our school community, and the larger community, have come together to help each other. I want to publicly thank everyone for their concern about our school and for the offers of help we have received. Through the support of many individuals and of services provided by the city and local communities, our clean up and recovery tasks have been made lighter.
All of our children and staff are physically unharmed and our school building remains structurally sound, though in need of repair. Our playground was devastated but through generous donations of time and labor, we are continuing our cleanup and look forward to a redesign.
The children affected are recovering their sense of security through their nurturing families. We know we are not in this alone and feel for others who have had to experience this occurrence of nature.
At this time, the Pioneer Valley Montessori School community, as are so many others, are thankful for the quick response by our staff, parents, public officials and employees. We are so appreciative of those who continue to surround us with hope.
