St. Joseph's sale

I am writing in response to a statement made in the Jan. 6 article regarding the creation of the Our Lady of Hope local historic district.

The article reports that the spokesperson for the Diocese "said the demolition of St. Joseph's in the South End neighborhood came about when no developer could be found who would preserve the building."

The facts are the Diocese sold the 70-car parking lot for the church for $375,000 in June 2006 and then sold the church for $1,168,000 in November 2007. I question how interested any owner is in finding a new use for a historic property when it sells off the parking facility 17 months before the building itself.
