The heart of darkness

Once again last Tuesday, East Longmeadow was plunged into darkness by National Grid for more than two hours. A record-setting storm dumped a quarter inch of rain, and furious winds gusted up to 25 mph! And it was dark, too! And so the power went out. Again.

This is why regulatory hearings should be held. But, no, we wasted those hearings discussing the storm of the century in October. The good news is that for Christmas our kids gave us battery-powered light readers, and a Coleman stove for these regular power interruptions. And it’s always reassuring to hear our neighbor's new generators spring to life every couple of months. This is what it’s like in Iraq, I suppose. How has it come to this in East Longmeadow?
