Time to Move Forward

I was a single guy in my early 30's when I moved to the Hampden-Wilbraham area in 1992 and purchased a home in one of the many great family neighborhoods in Wilbraham. My work brought me to the area and I chose to live here over many other nice areas around Springfield. Hampden-Wilbraham had the fundamental qualities and "identity" that were important to me: rural character, small town roots, a proud "can do" identity and a solid array of services and infrastructure that supported that identity. I had no children at the time but the quality of the educational experience where I lived was at the top of my list. Education is the lifeblood of our families, communities and global economy.

Career turns took me and my bride (Molly) away from the area for 7 years; first south, then west. Given the opportunity to move back east in 2002, our compass quickly pointed us back "home" to Wilbraham, this time with 2.3 children in tow. On a house-hunting trip, we visited the elementary schools and were pleased with what we saw. When we visited Minnechaug we were completely caught off guard by the physical state of the school. It was clear to us that if we were to continue to have a quality high school experience for our children, we as a community would need to reinvest soon. That was 2002. Here we are 7 years later. The due diligence has been thorough. The economics of the decision will never be better. The choice is clear. The time is now for the people of Hampden and Wilbraham to invoke that "can do" attitude and move forward with construction of the new Minnechaug High School.
