Wagner is right

Chicopee's Rep. Joseph Wagner is to be commended on his recently stated position supporting charter change through a publicly elected charter commission and not by the whim of the mayor or City Council.

Having repeatedly suggested such action to our elected officials in the past, the response I always received was "nothing gets done by charter commissions."

Rep. Wagner now needs to insure that the other representatives and senators that represent this city that has been diced and sliced through redistricting to the point where the city has no single voice in the House or Senate share his view.

Perhaps a unified effort at that level will finally result in an elected charter commission making proposals that truly represent the majority of residents of this city.

There is plenty of time to get interested individuals names on the ballot in 2011, a good time since it would be coupled with the general election for the mayor, city council, and school committee.
