Walk the walk

The Chicopee city council along with the mayor were asked fifteen months ago to take a position on the planned Palmer Renewable Energy Plant on Page Boulevard in Springfield. What took Chicopee officials so long to take a stand?

The council and other elected and appointed officials have to be far more proactive on issues that could directly impact the health and welfare of their constituents, especially in matters where their early input could make a difference in the final outcome.

The proclamation approved on April 19 by the Chicopee City Council regarding the plant is commendable, but may be a case of too little, too late. This situation may have to be resolved in the courts depending on the outcome of the Springfield City Council meeting on May 17.

Hopefully, the entire Chicopee council will attend that meeting and make their voices heard. It will require rescheduling their may 17 planned meeting, but the matter should be important enough for them to do so, and for the mayor and health director to also attend.

It's time to walk the walk as well as talk the talk.
