We agree with Dobbs

We agree with Mike Dobbs that Western Massachusetts is unlikely to be allowed to have a casino but disagree that legalization of casino gambling is needed for our state (Opinion April 20-26).

It's our understanding that when the true costs of casinos are acknowledged and calculated and money given to the out-of-state investors, the result is basically a redistribution. Some businesses and individuals will gain; other businesses and individuals will lose; and there will be no real gain to the taxpayer. The budgets of Connecticut and other states that allow casinos seem to be hurting just as much as Massachusetts.

To tout a redistribution as a jobs and revenue solution at a time when so many people are hurting seems cruel. The fact that the issue deteriorated to a debate on racinos should speak volumes.

Since it's a sure bet those who expect to profit will reintroduce casino legislation, please express opposition. Special interests are definitely at work.
