We need your help July 23,

We at Gus & Paul's want you to know that we are proud to be a part of this community and take great joy in being a neighborhood bakery and deli. We have been serving the community indiscriminately for over 50 years and want to continue to do so.
We need your help. As many of us are struggling with the economy we just ask that you give us a chance to show you how delicious and fresh our food is. We bake all night every night and always open with fresh baked bread, rolls, bagels, Danish, cakes, pies and more. You will always be greeted with a smile and the coffee is always fresh and hot. Believe me night bakers know about good coffee.
I realize that we are up against million dollar advertising budgets that brainwash people into buying mediocrity laced with preservatives and pay higher prices for it. The goal of these national chains and big regional markets is to eliminate the independents and sell average food for higher prices while giving the illusion that they are doing it the same way. I recently heard an ad for a national donut and coffee place that used the words "bakery fresh sandwiches." What they don't say is they have no ovens or mixers or BAKERS in there stores. A trip to the supermarket would lead you to believe that there are bakeries in these stores. You see people decorating cakes and maybe an oven but what you don't see is the cake coming in a box from the freezer or the frosting from a sealed pail from who knows where and who knows how old. You don't see the massive freezer filled with pre made thaw and sell and thaw and bake products that they pass off as there own. If you don't believe me ask them when your cake was baked or when the Italian bread dough was made.
As an employer who has provided work for thousands of our youth over the years and who has good hard working decent people giving there all I would just like a chance to show you why we are better. We have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of products and services and time and money over the years and are proud of it. We make a difference in the community and help mentor our youth and future. We want you to know we want to remain a part of this community.
We are not looking for a handout. All we ask is you give us a chance. We don't want the utility companies or the DOR to decide our fate and we believe in the free market. We just want you, our community to decide if you want to keep us here. Come in once a week, every two weeks and I promise you will get outstanding, delicious and fresh bakery and deli products with great personal service for a fair price.
I know there are people who will take great joy in reading this letter who wish us to fail and all I can say is it says more about you than it does about us. I write this letter because of my love off this community, for my hardworking dedicated employees and for my son and daughter and for the woman I love. I know I can close and move on and work two jobs and make more money and work less. But I love to bake, I love this community and I want you to decide our fate.
The next time you need a cake or bakery goods please ask yourself do I want to keep Gus & Paul's as part of our community? Do I want a fresh baked cake with fresh made frosting or do I want a frozen cake made who knows where with frosting from a bucket that is who knows how old. The next time you want a bagel please ask yourself do I want to keep Gus and Paul's as part of our community or do I want a commissary baked or thaw and sell bagel from a place who couldn't bake a real bagel to save there lives. The next time you want a sandwich ask yourself do I want to keep Gus & Paul's as part of our community or do I want to pay more at a national chain because of the million dollar ad campaign that I saw that made it look so good but taste like ... Ask yourself do I want to keep Gus & Paul's as a part of our community or ...
Thank you for your time and I hope and pray to see you soon.
