The actions of the current Chicopee school committee continue to border on amazing.
Let’s see, we pay a service $850,000 annually to hire substitutes, but the subs only receive $510,000 of that total. The service earns $340,000 or 40 percent of the tax dollars. Not bad.
Based on 180 school days, the service is earning more than $1,800 a day, but a substitute’s average pay is just $70 per day.
Even more amazing is that Chicopee is the only school system in the area doing so.
What’s wrong with this picture? Hopefully, in November, there will be a number of new faces on the school committee.
