Why a Special Meeting?

At the Dec. 7 Select Board meeting the subject of having a Special Town Meeting and special vote was proposed. This would occur before our already scheduled regular town meeting in May and vote on June 8. Why should we spend monies for another special meeting and special vote when we have this process in place?

I find this request not in the best interest of our town and is ambiguous. Comments have been made from different departments regarding "wait and see" when state and federal monies will be allocated to our town to help alleviate our financial burden.

It would be prudent not to spend monies on a special town meeting when it is not necessary. It would make more sense to settle our employee contracts and present a balanced budget to the citizens of Longmeadow before voting on our school project which is still lacking the openness of some important facts and figures.
